I played on either wing and occasionally up front, I would defend as I was lazy and I couldn't play CM as I just wasn't good enough, it's probably the hardest position on the pitch, my son plays there and asks me different things and I havnt got a clue what to advise, other than you need eyes in the back of your head, have half a second on the ball and there are possibly 4 players coming from different directions to challenge you, it makes you realise how good the top CMs are when they make it look so easy
Spot on in my opinion mate. Eyes in the back of your head bit in particular. When we coach the central midfielders these days it is all about awareness for them. We call it scanning, always checking where the opposition and the next pass is. It takes a lot of learning in my experience. The best young centre mids in my opinion are the ones who are the calmest heads. You need to be so comfortable receiving the ball tight, relax on it, be prepared play in any direction. It is a skillset that if your lad is always asking questions and thinking about his game he will develop or already have. I think the role of a central midfielder has changed a lot over the years. Even the likes of Makalele is probably not the blueprint anymore. It is now a real pressure position and those playing there are key to how a lot of teams now play. Tell your lad to watch Rodri at Man City, he is the perfect role model I think.

Just said this in a private conversation. We get attached to our players but this is the new way.

And we’ve proved it works with the signings last season, I’ve got total trust in the recruitment. I get that some find it frustrating but there’s loads of time left to get a striker or 2 in.

And then you have some fans like this…

And yet we've probably spent a few million already

"The Baz" sounds like an absolute moron to be fair.

I wouldn’t go over two to be honest.

Three million tops for me, but for that's made up on criteria like games played, goals scored, possible international call ups (he's eligible for England, Jamaica and Poland, apparently), benchmarks achieved etc. No way would I be paying it all up front, and definitely not getting drawn into a bidding war over him with him only having a year left on his contract.

Nowt happening with transfers, so I'll post these mock ups of what's supposed to be the new kit...
