Gotta remember the bookies aren't Sunderland fans haha. Objectively, as things stand, we've gotten weaker since last season. No Diallo and Stewart probably on his way out. None of our signings are first-team ready except maybe Jobe but he's very young and will likely only be a sub at first.

As fans we like to think all our signings are ****-hot... Realistically, if any other team had signed any of them (bar Jobe) we'd all be saying "who the **** is that? <laugh>"
Aye mate, and these odds will shorten before the transfer window closes.

@Scout73 whats this guy like ?
Only seen him a couple of times but he looks a cracking player. Strong lad and his movement in the final 3rd is good, and he is composed when shooting - doesnt snatch at chances, strikes them cleanly

He isnt a good presser though, so very different to the other lads we have in the forward areas - he needs to improve in this area for sure to play at Championship level

I would be keen to see him in a Sunderland shirt and I'd say he has a lot more upside than Simms

These contracts look purely to me to be padding out our U21 side. I don't think we have any ambition of either of them becoming first team players, nor making money off them. Both will be released next summer and sign for a League Two side.

Sorry to be such a pesimist - I am in a bad mood like :D
Realistic tbf.

Ekwah is like some Michaelangelo statue. He looks chiselled from marble the lad. I have a feeling he might well prove to be the player this season that is the most valuable of all our new purchases. A pre season and no longer the new kid. He is a man now in football terms and he could be some player.

I can't see the odds shifting just yet as we have not yet purchased any players that will immediately improve our first eleven. I would imagine the two centre backs are for development / backup / succession with Ballard and Baath continuing to start. Obviously still have Alese and O'Nien there too. Bellingham could start but his twenty or so appearances for Birmingham last season were largely substitute. I think he'll start the season on the bench. Semenyo likely to start on bench too behind Stewart unless he has an immediate impact similar to Simms last season. First eleven now weaker with the loss of Amad. Will be interesting to see if we buy anyone to immediately improve on what we have in that first choice eleven.

Aye he improved so rapidly it was almost shocking to witness. Looks like he's going to be a hell of a player.

P.s. not saying it's right or wrong, just that will be the perception of neutrals. Personally I trust our recruitment team that the new lads will come good. Plus our young team all now have an extra year's experience behind them.

It's also to temp us. Longer odds mean more people think "that's a great offer, get some money on now before the odds drop" and whop some money on. The odds will only really shorten when more money gets put on.

Saturday is 1st July. Lots of players suddenly not earning. I suspect things will ramp up again. I know you can announce deals before, but I wouldnt be surprised to see one or two coming here for a pay cut and staying on their money until friday at midnight. Pre season next week may see a couple of new players in.

Personal terms agreed weeks ago? well back in my day that was called "Tapping up", or "Sly as f**k".
I agree it is crap mate. But it has always been like this. We have just stopped bothering to call it tapping up, and now just talk about it openly. If anything it has probably put a stop to some of the shady shennanigans that went on back in the glory days. The game is ruined by money now, in that it is obscene. We used to have money problems back in the day, but they were less transparent. Take your pick I suppose as to which is better.
