I think people are being abit harsh on Stewart mind. He's our best goalscorer and argaubly along with Clarke our most important player, it's imperative we get him a new deal I think as he will be very difficult to replace.

New deals for Patto, Clarke, Stewart and Roberts would be immense.
Totally agree, Stewart will be the hardest to replace, hes guaranteed goals

Everything seems to be positive at S.A.F.C. and with new signings and new contracts at the forefront, Rod (yes, Rod) Stewart surely must be seeing this and thinking 'I definitely want to be a part of this' :emoticon-0112-wonde

It's surprising that we haven't managed to find a compromise with Stewart, the lad has basically made **** money his whole career. Surely a big uplift in wages and a ~£20m PL offer release clause would have got him to sign.

Bang on. I’ll be devastated to lose him, he’s quality and massively important to us.

That makes sense. Our wage structure may have moved up a notch this season so we could at this point offer more.

The downside side for the club is his injury record and that was before he did his achilles in January. We appear to, rightly, be focused on getting excellent value and not wasting money.

Before his Achilles he’d only been injured once for us since joining. I remember saying, in the reading warm up that “Stewart just doesn’t seem to get injured”!

Prior to that, his injury record is non existent. Last season, on the other hand, he was injured most of it.

Stewart made 15 appearances last season. It looks like two were off the bench in FA cup games.

The 21/22 season was phenomenal for Stewart but an outlier in terms of appearances (53).

He made 36 total appearances in 20/21, joining us in January with a knock.

26 in 19/20.

36 in 18/19.

40 in 17/18.

Not bad, but not great.

It also stands to reason that the championship is the tougher, physical league - compared to League 1 and the Scottish leagues. It’s the highest standard, opposition players are stronger and faster, and the players’ bodies will be taxed the most.

I'm not sure Stewart will stay....money talks and BS walks. His agent is clearly working on a decent pay packet for his man. If Sunderland don't pay the going rate, someone will...I'm sure Stewart won't care if its Sunderland, Stoke, Rangers or whoever, as long as the numbers work. Sadly football has gone down this route, its a shame, but its a fact

Cant blame the lad if he chooses his boyhood club of Rangers, especially if they're offering higher wages.

If I played for Rangers and Sunderland came in on higher wages I wouldn't even think twice.

If he goes to Stoke ill just laugh and shake my head.
