Personally I’d struggle to make an argument for a better striker than Stewart in the Championship last season. Obviously a few been relegated just now who are quality but I’d be surprised if they’re still here start of the season ie Rodrigo/Iheanacho.

He’s massive for how we play and I’d love him to stay but as I’ve said before you can’t fault him for leaving if another team are offering much more money, especially the age he’s at. I’d be disappointed if it’s to Stoke and we get blown out of the water by them. I understand the project we’re trying to build and appreciate picking up younger players through cheaper fees but ultimately if we’re offering 1/3 of the wages that mid table championship clubs are willing to offer we’ve no chance of retaining our best players.

How do you know there's no other Stewart's in the market? Nee ****er had heard of him when Harvey and Speakman brought him in.

I’m basing it on what I see. Let’s not forget loads of ours said he was **** when we signed him, despite a debut goal.

Hopefully we can find another, but would you be taking that gamble when we have one here and are genuinely in reach of the PL?

If his head has been turned by Stoke, yes I would take the gamble. We’ve seen what this recruitment team can do with a small budget so with a decent budget to replace him I think we’d be just fine.

The thing is though, Stoke can’t afford the fee we’d want. So unless they’re willing to wait until the end of the season I can’t see it happening. If they turned around and offered us £10m I’d pack his bags for him but that’s never going to happen.

Free knows the league and a Portuguese speaker to help semedo settle in?

Odd
If the club have anything about them, if and when we sign him, I truly hope there's a video, full rock band singing

"We've just signed Luis Semedo"
"The Stadium of light is now his new home"
"All he wants are crosses in the box"
"onto his dome"

Sing that to yourselves to We don't need another hero.

He's was definitely in the top 3 until his injuries last year mate. Gyökeres and Brereton Díaz other ones. For me gyokeres was the best the 2 games he played against us he was quality. Would love Stewart to sign a new contract and be on fire again for us.

Gyokeres. Best player in the league for me like. All about opinions I suppose.

If he'd wanted to sign, he'd have done so by now.

I've thought and said for a bit that Ross is rolling the dice. He has a very bad injury which should clear up. But it might not, and he is a tall forward, just about the last type of player you'd want to have a bad achilles injury.

He might come back and be missing a few percent, or the goals don't come and the perception might grow that he's not quite what he was, even if he is.

Up to him. But it's up to us to prepare properly, whether he is interested or not. He's almost 27 so he really should have signed what was there. It would have set him up, and if he gets fully fit and firing the goals in, a move, or more money would have came anyway.

His whole future now rests on the state of some tendons in his leg. A decent agent would never have allowed that to happen.

Gyokores finishing is undoubtedly better than Stewart but I don’t think his all round play is even close. Stewart’s finishing is what lets him down. Not getting too ahead of myself but just watching a few videos of Semedo and he looks like his finishing is top drawer. You’d never see Stewart lash home a 30 yarder.

edit - just clarifying, it sounds ridiculous saying a striker who managed 25+ goals in a season lacks finishing but I just think when I see other strikers compared to Stewart he rarely hits the ball sweetly.

Gyokeres all round game is fantastic in my opinion. Works hard, closes down, good dribbler, can pick a pass. Think he's massively underrated if anything.

I agree. Actually see it other way round think Ross is a better finisher but Gyokeres better all round.

I get the ‘doesn’t hit the ball clean’ thing but what he does hit is the corners, and that’s more important.

We would struggle to find a striker who harries like Roscoe though, he stretches defences out cos he will chase everything. Love that about him.

That’s exactly it. He stretches defences and gets the 3 behind him involved in the attack so easily and we’ll struggle to find another like that.
