I agree that Amad could/should be at least in the Man Utd first team squad. Depends if they sign anyone I guess.

And Antony’s injury.

my guess is if he goes anywhere, it won’t be until last week of august. So we need to avoid waiting for him like we did for simms. If he comes it needs to be additive to what we have rather than dependant

Fully agree.

going to be one of the hardest in a long time,
can see simms coming back if everton stay up today,
Can it be any harder than last season, Burnley and Sheffield United had top two boxed off pretty early and up to 12 teams scrapping for the final place seems difficult for me.
Can't see any of the three coming down doing a Burnley and running away with top spot, IF we get a kinder season injury wise and recruit well then top two has to be achievable, faint hearts win......etc.
Ask me again after pre-season.

im trying not to set any expectations for next season. Going to be a crazy strong league as the teams coming down aren’t the usual basket cases. But we definitely have a shot. Especially with a striker :D

I think the coming season will be difficult, the championship was poor this season IMO. You have to take into account that Burnley had a poor squad coming down yet still managed to generate enough to buy a lot of good championship players and both Southampton/Leicester have decent squads and youth set ups. I’d imagine they’ll generate a few quid from selling players and reinvest meaning they’ll be right up there. I think both of them will have good seasons whereas Leeds/Everton will struggle.

There’s talk of Maddison and Barnes going for £100m between them before you even account for the likes of Soumare, Iheanacho, Ndidi, Soyuncu who will be off. Tielemans contract is up iirc. That’s a LOT of coin to put back into the squad.

Can’t see Norwich having another mid table season. Stoke transfer restrictions could be finished. Ipswich will spend in the summer no doubt. Then Boro and WBA will be right up there again.

Id settle for another sneaky entry into the play offs whilst playing the same sort of football. Top two seems less likely than mid table so somewhere in between would be nice.

100%. I do think we’ll have another good season but it’s totally dependant on transfer activity at both Sunderland and the clubs we expect to be around us. You expect other teams to abuse the loan market and have 4/5 premier league loans in their matchday squad I don’t think we will, I think it’ll be 1 or 2 again.

Just seen Jonny Evans interview on SSN there and I’d love him back in and around the squad with his brother for one last season if Leicester were to let him go. Not only is he still quality when fit at 35 but he’d be great to have around the young defenders in training.

Yeh I think we missed the best chance to get promoted in the championship for a long time. That’s not a knock on us or blaming anyone, we had no right to get promoted this season. I just think it was the worst the championship has been for ages.

I expect Stoke, Watford, Norwich and West Brom to all be better next season.

then you have Coventry, Boro, Southampton and probably Leeds and Leicester.

Having said that, I think we have a better chance of getting into playoffs next season than I thought we did this season. And we did. And all our players are constantly improving.

and fwiw other clubs will be looking at us and saying they expect us to improve. So it’s not like we are alone in having a challenging year ahead

Just reading that list of clubs makes you realise how tough next season will be.
There are lots of big clubs in the championship and it’s going to be tough.
If we can keep hold of Stewart, somehow wangle Amad coming back and add a couple more players, I’d be happy with top 6 again, but wouldn’t be surprised if we win promotion this time.

This is a big issue for me, why do some teams go through a season almost injury free and others us included are wrecked by them.
It's something needs to be looked into.
Is it training regime, training pitch sol pitch over exertion. Whatever it caused problems we could well have done without.

the might have one year left on the payments so maybe not as bad as i first thought

I agree.

Speakman's performance so far is a net win. He's done great, I'm very optimistic moving forwards. He walked a tight rope though, particularly second half of this season, but it came off, overall. In life if you take risks and it works, you win and deserve the credit. Fair play to him.

You do have to be objective though, and as much as the consensus appears to be that 'we shouldn't have just bought anyone', which I completely agree with, that wasnt the situation...we had 2 strikers for the whole first half of the season and one was a loan who could be (and was) recalled. We should have had multiple players lined up for the situation that occured, which factored in some of those players not wanting to or being in a position to sign, and we didn't. It was a massive **** up.

That being said, I'm more than happy to chalk it off as unfortunate and early days issues and assume those mistakes won't be made again moving forwards.

Gonna be a fun summer seeing how things develop.

HTL

I just don't see how anyone can call it a **** up when we don't know what went on behind the scenes. If the club identified e.g. 5 players who could potentially replace Stewart, and they all said no (or their clubs did), what more can Speakman and co do?

And 5 is incredibly optimistic btw, I seriously doubt there was that many Championship-level strikers available in January.

I know this is something we'll never all agree on, just putting my point across <ok>

I’d say the mess was only saying we needed two in the summer. Admittedly having Dajaku maybe made it tough in terms of squad size but he’s a midfielder anyway really.

Amad liked and put a handshake emoji about that story.:emoticon-0110-tongu
Also says he misses us.<cool>

If nothing else it's good to know that we're a club that won't just give youth a chance but we'll treat them well and give them a great experience whether they're our player or a loan. Night and day from how it was just a few years ago.

We've proved we can compete with the best the championship has to offer and that with half a team missing. I have no concerns about next season - we will be in the mix

I fear absolutely no f**ker next season. Newly promoted last season and made it into the playoffs. We're on people's radar as an exciting skillful team and even though it's been said countless times this season, I firmly believe that if Stewart was fit last season, there's every argument to say we may have went up but we'll never know. Alas, fans of the relegated 3 need to show the league respect because since the last time Southampton were in the championship, its charged a hell of a lot.

Trevor Sinclair on talkSPORT there for Everton. He hopes they stay up, but going down mite not be a bad thing because they'll go down, spend a season in the Championship, get rid of all the dead wood, get promoted and move into their new stadium. So very simple. It's **** like that that makes people (like me) want them to get relegated.
