This is the vital flaw in the argument of anyone who said "the club should have signed any big lad to play up front!!" in January. I 100% guarantee you that there was not a "big lad" available who was as good with his feet as Ross. Literally zero chance.

So, the club had two options. Either sign a big lump of ****e like Chris Martin (people were actually suggesting we go for him :emoticon-0119-puke:) and completely change the way we play to accommodate a "big lad" who might win a few headers and score the odd scrappy goal but is otherwise ineffective, or utilise the quality players we have, continue to develop our style of football... And end up being the 4th highest scoring team in the league.

I know which option I prefer.

I agree.

Speakman's performance so far is a net win. He's done great, I'm very optimistic moving forwards. He walked a tight rope though, particularly second half of this season, but it came off, overall. In life if you take risks and it works, you win and deserve the credit. Fair play to him.

You do have to be objective though, and as much as the consensus appears to be that 'we shouldn't have just bought anyone', which I completely agree with, that wasnt the situation...we had 2 strikers for the whole first half of the season and one was a loan who could be (and was) recalled. We should have had multiple players lined up for the situation that occured, which factored in some of those players not wanting to or being in a position to sign, and we didn't. It was a massive **** up.

That being said, I'm more than happy to chalk it off as unfortunate and early days issues and assume those mistakes won't be made again moving forwards.

Gonna be a fun summer seeing how things develop.

The quality of our own youngsters will gradually improve as well so should mitigate future situations like the lack of strikers or centre backs.

It’s still early days really for KLD and co.

Nixon has also tweeted this evening that he knows “Diallo is willing if it comes round” to come back to us this summer.

I know it’s Nixon etc etc but this is pretty specific for him.

If I were to guess, the suggestion is that he will do pre season at United but they might decide to loan him out again towards end of window. At which point we have a shout

Odds for promotion next season...

Stoke 11/2
Ipswich 6/1
Sunderland 7/1

Wtf

Depends on recuritmment. Tough league. Really tough.

I don't see Amad coming back. Man U will use it test the waters with a PL loan. Needs that's progression.
going to be one of the hardest in a long time,
can see simms coming back if everton stay up today,

Thing with Amad is if he doesn't get the right premier league loan it will set him back. No good going to a team scrapping everyweek, this is the same for that Carvalho from Liverpool.

The way we play and the fact we give young players a chance makes us attractive to teams wanting to loan out their players! What a transformation we have had!
