I think it’s good management, honest that he won’t be likely to get an extended contract so he can properly consider his options. Stringing him along would be **** management.
Stringing him along, he still has 1 year left on his contract and then he has until the end of that window to find a new club, now he has 3 weeks to find a club or he’s stuck here for the season not feeling all that happy, in fact he’s probably
feeling s hit. Great management <ok>
What happens to all the players at clubs who are not retained, how much notice have they had?

Ffs the club are being fairly open with him and it has been mentioned on here quite a few times that DB only has a year left on his contract and won't be offered the 3 year deal he wants because of his age. So they are allowing him to possibly go if he can find a club who will offer him the contract he wants, the club are being very fair with him and very upfront with the player. Not really the clubs to stand in his way but he may decide to stay. On his last couple of appearances though he has looked lacklustre and not really interested.
I wonder why?

Nonsense, people get told every day, in every walk of life that their contract isn't being renewed. A good employer gives the recipient plenty of notice so that they can make new arrangements.
Are you trying to tell me they are happy with that and still keep giving their best. If you believe that you are in cuckoo land, there are times when it pays to keep your trap shut if you are putting your company first.

He was already unsettled because of family, keeping him here without being honest and giving him opportunities to move if they arose would be awful. A lot of players will know long before their contract expires whether they are getting another one. If we hadn’t told him and were keeping him as insurance despite thinking he won’t play week in and week out would mean he really was stuck and, having been misinformed, probably really unhappy.

Not over yet - the offer of $3.6m USD was rejected by the club, but UC are asking for €8m.
More likely that Aravena moves at the end of the year.

We've been talking to an agency over signing him that won't be his agents until the new year when his contract with both current agent and club runs out. So I think all this interest is about us getting him signed up for a free for next season initially and then give us a stronger position if we want to bring him in early.

The fee they are asking is huge if he only has six months on his contract. He appears to have signed for Nublense last January and then a day later for his current club who he had been with before anyway, very confusing!

Oh! Right, well that should make him feel heaps better. The person who told him that has the man managed skills of a squirrel <ok>
Not necessarily. He is no spring chicken. Maybe the person told him look we will not be renewing your contract next year if you can find yourself a decent contract somewhere this year whilst you are a year younger then we wont stand in your way

Could we be lining him up to come in for Nout anticipating Clarke leaving next summer?

It seems like he’s said if there are offers let me know, family circumstances are tricky and we’ve said okay, we weren’t planning to offer a contract so that’s fair enough. None of us really know but it doesn’t seem to be that big a deal to me. I’d rather he stayed as he was excellent last season and I rate him but he’s coming back from injury and another year older. Two parallels that bother me are- Kone, if he’s not happy keeping him could be a very bad decision and Letting Kaboul go for next to nowt. Two awful decisions that ruined our central defence!

Possibly but don't think it's necessarily about getting a replacement for someone, more like the Jobe transfer when we were linked with him the year before but that was us just doing the leg work to get him this summer.
Fair, hope it comes off regardless looks a very good player

also you can guarantee he would tell anybody who will listen how badly the club have treated him. That kind of stuff will spread like wildfire in the small world of football and the good reputation we have started ro build could be gone in a flash. Reputation is very important in what we are trying to achieve and whilst I understand that some people may look at the situation and see it only from the club and the teams perspective you also have to consider the player and his family as well so IMO if Baath is to leave at least the club have been honest and straight with him and dealt with the situation in a straight forward and honest manner

Can't get my head around the batth deal like. Surely you keep him for the season, cant be on that high a wage? He'll have to play out his skin to get a new deal at a club, perfect for us.

If we're getting a fee it's a different story
