I was talking to a lad on here the other day who told me about the Roberts deal but didn't want to post before it was announced, fair enough not worth the grief tbh.

I was telling him about a bit of info I'd received which I also wasn't going to post but, sod it, the way the club operates these days we get very little gossip.

This is all I was told so I'm holding nothing back and can't add anything.

We've enquired about a PL keeper who's currently with a club but not for long. He'd be a back up, not a replacement, for Patterson unless we received an offer we couldn't refuse.

Word around the campfire is that goalkeeper is the one position outside of 'the model' because they may not mature until much later.

I've no idea which club this is but I got the impression it could be one that's after one of our players that isn't Patterson. All a bit frustrating and poses quite a few questions.

I was a bit uncomfortable with the idea tbh and hope nothing comes of it ...

... which would, of course, make me look like a BS artist.

If it helps make me look more credible I'm seeing the wife of one of Uriah Heep on Saturday <laugh>
Does Mrs Smug know this

They have released some decent stuff lately to be honest

I can see the sense in that. To be honest, I was thinking from a coaching perspective, which player is most replacable if we had a plan to sell one this summer and it was Patto. Keepers do have a long shelf life, and bring in someone 32 or so would be no bad thing, particularly when you look at our academy keepers.

The flip side is the player wanting to go. Keepers of course know they dont often become first team regulars until they are older. Why go somewhere and be a number 2, which is what in all likelihood would happen. Prem managers arent empowered to give young keepers freedom to learn, we can. Patto would know he is leaving a rapid learning environment to a slower one. This makes the flip side being he is likely to be the young lad in our squad with least motivation to move.

Who knows what will happen. My guess would be he stays, and that we are 1 year ahead of schedule still and the plan to sell one is next year not this one. Unless they see a big fee coming in allows them to push faster on value of incomings, seems unlikely though with wages being they key factor in FFP really.

I can absolutely 100% see Luke O'Nien going to Luton this window. It's very local for him. I know he has a north-east lass and kids tho.

I want to keep him but I wouldn't stand in his way of a Premier League chance considering his age and where he's come from career-wise.

For the right fee of course.

He's a really hard one to put a value on tho
Why would O'Nien want to join a club like Luton?

Yeah, she'll be there.

The group are on tour so she's catching up with people.

Her husband is Mick Box ...

... she says he's a bit of a square <doh>
A Band I was playing in whilst in Germany were on tour with a Band called Lucifer’s Friend (about 1981) and their singer was John Lawton who was previously the singer in Uriah Heep. John was from our area and I got on really well with him. He’s sadly left us a few years ago.

My other (very) tenuous connection to Uriah Heep was that when I joined the Army in 1967, the drummer (Nigel Olssen) who then took my place in a Band called The Enterprise also played for Uriah Heep a few years later.

Oh, and finally, another Band I played in done a Heep song called Easy Livin’

So there’s 3 conversation trivia if you talk to Mick Box.

I'll be recanting all these stories on Saturday, I'll report back.
