Tbf it all means that little even @Sucky can't be arsed about it... and he's just posted a fcking side salad slap bang in the middle of the whole discussion <laugh>

That says it all really.
It's United mate so the usual suspects are crying that we get treated different, more bitter than Bitrex

I mean clearly the rule has been bent in order to give Ronaldo the No.7 shirt, but as far as I can see it gives Man Utd no tangible advantage on the football field so I couldn't give two ****s.

I suspect it gives them a cash advantage off it though. The CR7 brand, shirt sales and merchandise etc.

It was always going to happen as dirty dollar is King, but if it was just Joe Bloggs at Burnley, it’d never make the PL agenda.

I doubt anyone who was gonna buy Ronaldo merchandise, wasnt going to unless he wore a No.7 jersey.
And I think CR himself owns that brand anyway, so it will benefit him personally more than the club

The line above the one you’ve highlighted makes you wrong.

They had to ask for permission and it’s been granted as it’s all about marketing and cash.
How is it wrong?? Its open to interpretation surely so thats why Ronaldo has 7 and Cavani 21 unless there is another quote of said rule.

Nope. Once a player has an assigned number they can't change it:
"Before the commencement of each Season each Club shall allocate a different shirt number to each member of its first team squad.
A Club shall likewise allocate a shirt number to any Player joining its first team squad during the Season.
Save with the prior written consent of the Board shirt numbers shall commence with the number one and shall be allocated consecutively.
While he remains with the Club a Player will retain his shirt number throughout the Season for which it was allocated.
Upon a Player leaving a Club the shirt number allocated to him may be re-allocated."

Said player James has left the club, number 21 has been re-allocated to Cavani, and Number 7 is now free and been allocated to Ronaldo.
It doesn't say the re-allocated number has to go to a new signing.
Cavani had already been allocated a number and he has to keep it.

Unless you request a change and are granted it which is what happened.

Rules bent all over the place or just oppo supporters bending themselves <laugh>

I'm sure that you've got an example of another accepted request, haven't you?
Nope because things like that just don't bother me as much as some people so pay no attention to what other clubs do.

Tell me again how many have been denied, i missed it the first time.
