Think the net was £32 milllion and we trimmed £30 mill off the wage bill. Everthing points to the owners being shrewd operators. So don't see what all this fuss is about.

There confidence in Kenny and co took a blow. Hence the sacking. I expect us to spend 30-50 mil feel free to bookmark.

I wasn't saying they would've joined if the money wasn't there, of course they wouldn't. However, What I am saying is, would they have joined Man City had the opportunity to win things not been there...? In other words, they are joining for both reasons, not just money. I am sure this doesn't apply to all their players though
Edit: if you work for company A (a medium sized national organisation) but company B (a large international organisation) come along and offer you more money, do you stay put? Or do you move to progress your career whilst getting more money too?
To be honest, I don't care what others clubs are paying players. I want us to do what is best for us. If we do not think a player is worth X, then don't pay it. If a player wants to play for us and is willing to take Y, fantastic. I'd rather the club be run financially stable than throw money at trying to over achieve![]()
as it happens I do think BR is the sort of manager who is capable of developing players over time so its by no means all doom and gloom. This could also beg the question though as to why not just push the boat a little and sign a player we know he wants and has also already had the time to develop? Personally I hope they do try and match any other offers (within reason) as much as a sign that they are willing to back THEIR man as to get the player himself. But surely, it is just a case of Gylfi's agent trying to use the Spurs bid to try and get more money from us, perhaps the club and Rodgers did not like having a gun put to there head and will let him go on principle. Or they may to decide to match the offer?
whatever, it's not a case of we can't afford £60,000k per week, because we clearly can.
if necessary give him what he wants on condition he drives Aquillani back to Italy and dumps him in the Trevi Fountain
Again that's all well and good and I can't argue with you. I guess the problem lies with the fact that IF (and I stress the IF) every time we offer a player Y and someone else offers them X then we will end up with third and fourth choice every time. If that is the situation at Anfield then I accept its just something we have to deal withas it happens I do think BR is the sort of manager who is capable of developing players over time so its by no means all doom and gloom. Never seen so much passionate debate over a player most of us have no idea about. If he does sign, he better be bloody world class after all this![]()

Off topic slightly, but why are United chasing Leighton Baines? Surely they have bigger concerns than left-back unless Evra has upset Fergie in some way?

bazray my man you will put people at serious risk with sensible contributions like that.
We've all had a nice amount of time to gently improve- or indeed for- an opinion about Sigurdsson (let's be honest it's difficult not to, although some now have him pegged as a footballing messiah). Who will we convince ourselves we want when this is over? I miss the days of Carlton Cole.
I'm under no illusion that he's a footballing messiah mate trust me, I totally agree and as GCoS says he won't win us the league single handedly so we shouldn't break the bank for him. However the only players who would win us leagues single handedly we simply can't afford so its catch 22 really eh. We either try and buy a couple of superstars (unlikely) or we try and build a team of good young players...but good young players still cost hard cash. Siggy aint no footballing messiah but he IS a good young player.Perhaps they are getting a few of Moyes players in ready for Fergie's retirement. Anyway sorry, don't want to disrupt the Gylfi debate!

On another forum, some United fans think they may be about to sign Alonso (or beard face as the are calling him) due to his stalled contract negations with Madrid.
Silly season has started![]()

don't doubt The Champ Bazray I know my players
I wonder if we'd have had a 28 page thread on Carlton Cole like Siggy??I'm under no illusion that he's a footballing messiah mate trust me, I totally agree and as GCoS says he won't win us the league single handedly so we shouldn't break the bank for him. I don't think there is much debating regarding Siggy, I think most of us agree that its a good signing if it happens but not overly bothered if it doesn't. The debating was more about the clubs ambition reflecting in the wages being paid or offered along with transfer budgets, something none of us know anything about
If Everton managed to get between £18m and £20m from Man Utd for Baines then they have to be happy with that. It would give them some much needed money to improve the first team. Although they would be losing a key player, it isn't a player in a key position![]()

Could be the champ tonight, need to predict the correct score, and the leader has 1-0 spain, so can't go for that.
The United lads will be sick if I win it.

I think the days of having a player that can drag you to a league title single handedly are gone pal. Man City and Chelsea have pushed the bar up over the years meaning you need at least three star players nowadays![]()
. This is after all what we are led to believe FSG want to do which is great IMO. Proof will be in the pudding now
