HIAG on the Spurs board thinks that Levy wants to go all out on a £20m-£30m net spend but sacked 'Arry because he didn't trust him with this sort of money (Who can blame him after Rosie). Probably worth a bookmark. Wonder which striker they have lined up for loan this season? Isn't Andy Johnson available?
Again that's all well and good and I can't argue with you. I guess the problem lies with the fact that IF (and I stress the IF) every time we offer a player Y and someone else offers them X then we will end up with third and fourth choice every time. If that is the situation at Anfield then I accept its just something we have to deal with as it happens I do think BR is the sort of manager who is capable of developing players over time so its by no means all doom and gloom. This could also beg the question though as to why not just push the boat a little and sign a player we know he wants and has also already had the time to develop? Personally I hope they do try and match any other offers (within reason) as much as a sign that they are willing to back THEIR man as to get the player himself.
Again fair comment mate but again if we are expecting to sign only players who no other clubs are chasing we wouldn't end up with many players eh. Agents negotiate...that's what they do...they may be slime sucking leaches but surely as a club we aren't naïve enough as to not know how agents work. Long gone are the days when players joined LFC on reputation alone. And whilst I also agree we can obviously afford such wages then I see no reason not to sign a player the manager obviously likes working with and who he obviously rates if necessary give him what he wants on condition he drives Aquillani back to Italy and dumps him in the Trevi Fountain
I think the only time we should push the boat out and outbid someone is if that player is seen as the one to make a difference. We can build a decent side without breaking the bank but it is when you come to making the next step that you need that better standard of player such as a Torres or Alonso, these are the types players we should be pushing the boat out for, the players that are seen as the final piece of the jigsaw if you like IMO, signing Siggy would not make us finish in the top four. He would strengthen the squad and possibly the first team, but not that much. I'm very happy for Rodgers to judge the value of players and I am extremely happy to see he is not going to be pushed around. I still think the Spurs rumours are Siggy's agent trying to get more money but I guess we'll find out later today
bazray my man you will put people at serious risk with sensible contributions like that. We've all had a nice amount of time to gently improve- or indeed for- an opinion about Sigurdsson (let's be honest it's difficult not to, although some now have him pegged as a footballing messiah). Who will we convince ourselves we want when this is over? I miss the days of Carlton Cole.
I've said more or less or the way through this thread, I'm not that bothered about what happens with Siggy. If we sign him then great, he is a good young player that will improve the squad. If we don't sign, ah well, plenty of other decent young players about that we could look at. End of the day, what will be will be, it is up to FSG, Rodgers and Siggy what happens
I thought the same, what happened to Rafeal and Fabio being their future star fullbacks too...? Got to say, if Baines joins Man Utd I'll be gutted. I like Baines and wanted us to sign him before we got Enrique (better deal but not a better player IMO), I can tolerate him being at Everton but Man Utd? I'd have to start disliking and condemning him...
I wonder if we'd have had a 28 page thread on Carlton Cole like Siggy?? I'm under no illusion that he's a footballing messiah mate trust me, I totally agree and as GCoS says he won't win us the league single handedly so we shouldn't break the bank for him. However the only players who would win us leagues single handedly we simply can't afford so its catch 22 really eh. We either try and buy a couple of superstars (unlikely) or we try and build a team of good young players...but good young players still cost hard cash. Siggy aint no footballing messiah but he IS a good young player.
I don't think there is much debating regarding Siggy, I think most of us agree that its a good signing if it happens but not overly bothered if it doesn't. The debating was more about the clubs ambition reflecting in the wages being paid or offered along with transfer budgets, something none of us know anything about If Everton managed to get between £18m and £20m from Man Utd for Baines then they have to be happy with that. It would give them some much needed money to improve the first team. Although they would be losing a key player, it isn't a player in a key position
Watched a couple of those full match highlight vids again to refresh my memory the other day. Eventually realized i could accept i found him ungainly and the Sigurdsson bubble was burst for me!
FSG are a conglomerate of different sports, they openly admit they haven't got a clue about football and every aspect of running a club and are on a learning curve. We probably would have been better off with an owner that could give LFC his total commitment and not have to share effort with baseball and horse racing. If we dont progress this coming season i would expect them to totally change their tranfer strategy and financial policy. But lets see what happens next season under Rodgers managership.
Some of us had heard of him (I used to really rate him during his time at Reading) hence me bringing him straight into my FF team when he signed for Swansea don't doubt The Champ Bazray I know my players
I think the days of having a player that can drag you to a league title single handedly are gone pal. Man City and Chelsea have pushed the bar up over the years meaning you need at least three star players nowadays
I rate Baines too mate but actually thought Evertons back 4 looked as solid without him when he was injured last season. Probably Pienaar coming back in helped keep that side a bit more solid.
What happens if you say Spain 2-0 and that's right meaning he gets one point and you get three leaving you level...?
Looks like Newcastle will miss out on the Dutch striker Luuk De Jong, he seems on the verge of signing for Borussia Monchengladbach. I tried spelling that name without google, don't hate me.
Yeah i know mate and i understand that people only get wound up because they care, just personally i like to leave most of the emotional rollercoaster at least until there's some kind of confirmation. I shall be keeping an open mind, but of course each poor signing or lack of activity may start to change that. I'm not expecting either of those at the moment though which i think is the difference. More importantly though BREAKING NEWS: "Rodgers signs Carlton Cole to spearhead his Tiki-Taka revolution!" He should do it just for the ****s and giggles!
More reason then to build a good strong young squad then eh . This is after all what we are led to believe FSG want to do which is great IMO. Proof will be in the pudding now
