I get all that but cant just keep players beacuse weve spent money on them. if they aren't going to play then I don't see the benefit in keeping both- i get loaning them but it comes a time where you have to move on if you feel there's better out there

Alese and Huggins are mid 20s and have both barely played any minutes. We cant just keep players hoping they might reach their potential at some point, the club will know best whether to keep them or move them on

Because of their injuries, their transfer value will have significantly lowered. For that reason, and because they could still prove to be useful for us, I would loan them out this season, making sure they still have at least a year on their contracts in a years time, to ensure we get a fee if we do decide to sell.

If they perform well, we can decide then if they are still likely to be able to do a job for us, or, because they have been seen to be performing well by other clubs, we can get a higher price for them, if we decide to sell.

If they don't perform well on loan or get further injury problems, then we get rid next summer, but their value probably wouldn't be much less than it is now.

There are plenty in the squad that I want off the books completely and most people will know who they are without me naming them. I don't want us loaning them out and being left with the same problem next year.

And our homegrown quota blown.

Unless you want Joe Anderson in the squad <cheers>

I'd rather we kept both tbh, I believe they'll both become better players now.

Our coaching is excellent and the level of our signings will push them on imo.

That's why I'm not as anxious as some to have a mass clear out.

Not writing them off as such, Huggins has been here 4 years and Alese 3 years - yet neither have played enough, that's fact.

Me saying I would sell them isn't me writing them off, it's saying what I believe is best for not only the club but for those 2 players.

I'm all for giving players a chance, i rarely write players off until they've been here for a while and you can better judge them as a player

We will sell players who will then go on to have great careers, that's football but sometimes those players can only reach that level by moving on and playing regularly.

As I said I'm not against loaning them out and seeing what they do but they'll then be a year further on in their contracts so maybe the time to sell is now

None of us will know what's best, I'm saying I'd sell but noone might want to buy.

I like both players but I honestly think weve moved on and probably outgrown them - nothing wrong with that, we outgrew players like Gooch, Evans, Pritchard, Wright, Baath and Embleton, players who got us out of L1
Alese in particular I just dont see a fit here anymore. His injuries have probably seen him stall here. But I just dont see him ahead of Ballard, Onien, Alderete, Seelt right now. I would play Reinaldo ahead of him ar CB. It seems we are in for another CB. In my opinion that would make him 7th choice CB and 4th choice left back (shudder). I agree with you, fairest from us would be to let him go for a reasonable fee and let him try to play regularly.

Huggins I see a slightly different scenario. That is because I think he is a better player than Alese, with more versatility. A loan to see if he can stay fit for 40 games would be my choice. Then I would bring him back and see if we can get him at the top of his form.

Those two are goos enough to play a part. We do have more than our share of players who I dont think will and I believe it is fair to them to give them an easy route out.

Ba, Pembele, Hemir, Poveda, Anderson, Matete, Blondy, Rusyn, Triantis. I dont think can add anything to out match day squad anymore. Then there are some who may, but are probably better off going for their careers in Alese, Huggins, Browne, Aleksic. Whether those lads go on loan or perm or loan is something to consider. Probably sell Browne tbf to the lad, depending on how big his salary is being as he was a freebie.

Judging how he played against Wolves, not a chance
Would love a (loan to) permanent as he’s a home grown player - as well as being a massive talent. But I think the buzz around him makes him likely to be a City first teamer from this season. He was meant to break through last season if he hadn’t got the injury.

We pull these deals off we will still get hit with "youve broken PSR rules ( which a few have already started to say)

we're still going down

Burnley and Leeds are better,

etc

We might very well go down.

Leeds and Burnley might be better. These two thing will be decided on the pitch.

But I would bet everything I own on us not breaking these rules. This lot are just too professional.

Good post. This all makes sense. The only thing I have slight difference on is Seelt might not be at the level that Sunderland seems to be going after now. I'd be tempted to keep a fit Alese ahead of him. But he's never fit so this is a theoretical discussion only :emoticon-0100-smile

Bring me Harvey. Still available I believe. Probably a better signing than Amad would be... (runs for cover)

I am not massively comvinced by Seelt either mate. I am just relying a bit on his youth development to give him a chance. That and the fact decent clubs are knocking on the door for him.

All just opinions arent they. For all I know Joe Anderson may be 1st choice by Christmas. Well, maybe not I suppose <laugh>

Right :emoticon-0100-smile. It will be interesting to see if Seelt stays in for Burnley. If I had to bet I think he might not. The good thing is that Regis and the club don't have 'favorites' and only show loyalty to players to the extent that they think it will help the team win. It's not great watching the playoff winning team sitting on the bench, but that team would have almost certainly got relegated. The new one might not.
