Sometimes being too cosy at a club can have the opposite effect and he's been there since he was a kid.

I'd like to see the two fellas, in blazers at the bottom of the stairs, quake a little when the captain walks in.

A captain needs to stand a little apart from the other players so they take their headphones off when he comes into the dressing room, pay attention when he's talking and start to get serious.

It always irritated me when Dan Neil shuffled up to the opposition captain, and referee, with a nervous grin when he handed in the team sheet ...

... that was always Roy Keane's first glimmer of intent and mental note to them both.

No offence to Dan Neil but I want to see a bit of fear when our captain puffs his chest out in that first minute ...

... I just never felt that with Neil.
I did say it was now to do with Dan Neil mind

I can see your issue, however, by the end of this transfer window who, of the team promoted will be guaranteed a starting birth. Still think Hume will be replaced as well as the CBs
I did say my opinion is probably irrelevant as it will largely be a new starting 11. Just not my style is all

I can totally respect that mate I don’t think you’re alone in thinking that. But I’m also not sure Neil really earned it, I think it was given as a sweetener and I remember saying at the time it’ll come back to bite us on the arse if he doesn’t perform.

For me, what Xhaka is bringing ie the level he’s played at, the several captaincies before the international experience etc it makes sense because we really don’t have a lot of experience in the squad at a decent level still. Two years of championship football isn’t a great deal to me. Brentford done it with Jansson when he signed from Leeds and got promoted his first full season as captain iirc. Here’s hoping it has a similar effect and we can stay up!
Fair enough mate. I am probably going to sound like I am dying in a ditch over Neil. I probably am. I doubt it was a sweetner myself. It just doesnt seem to be how KLD, Speakman and now Regis work. Everything seems to a very clear plan. We will probably never know.

Tbh I hope Neil leaves. I have been to much in love with him and his ability. I would like to keep my memory of him leading us out at Wembley as our local captain and as big a fan as any of us. I am not daft, I know Xhaka is much better. I dont really want to see him coming on here and there, or plugging afcon gaps. Just hope he goes abroad really, Everton or West Ham would mean him lining up against us and I would rather that not happen.

The minority have spoken and he would be better of leaving.

He was soley blamed for slowing the whole team down on Saturday, he has that much influence he can make 10 other players slow down, yet doesnt influence the team to start or come off then bench.

We all know where this ends up, so best he goes off and develops into a solid midfielder

Neil will be off if he doesn't sign a contract, that's what it comes down to for me

I wish the lad nothing but the best, I hope he stays but I agree with @FellTop id hate him to become a bit part players which I think he would become

I'm a huge fan of Neil but once Xhaka signs I think he will struggle for game time

If he does go he will go with nothing byt my best wishes

It wont matter anyway if he doesnt sign a new contract which seems very likely that he wont

To be fair it has absolutely nothing to do with the wishes of the supporters mate.

He's a pro-player who's either not wanted or refusing to sign a new contract.

Only he and the club know why, I just don't think he's doing himself any favours.

He had the chance to sign a contract in the Championship but, in my opinion, thought he'd be given a much better one this season in the PL ...

... unfortunately he's now way down the pecking order and the club has overtaken him.

IMO we absolutely have to play, and develop Ballard, Hume, Rigg, Isidor, Patto, Huggins, Alese, etc ....

... they're our next big earners and the only way we'll stay sustainable.

We can't just bring in high cost foreign players, on big contracts, then wonder where all the money's gone.
If the new guys have a decent season and afcon then possibly sell one or two of those
