As much talent as we can get combined with the ability to manage our finances over the short medium and long term. I’d instinctively prefer an appreciating asset over a depreciating one. Maybe the balance between dead money and immediate impact is okay with Xhaka. Certainly hope so.
I agree about not wanting to spend much on players who offer zero value in the long run. Xhaka isn't a high transfer fee but obviously wages will be high. I think the odd signing like this is key tho, I'd hate to make loads like this as that def has a big impact longer term. Someone like xhaka surrounded by young promising players just seems a match made in heaven

Pays for himself 10 fold if helps us stay up.

I just fail to see how anyone that wanted Henderson could turn their nose up at xhaka.
It’s a squad balance thing for me - although I’m certain Xhaka is a much bigger positive on the pitch. Henderson was experience and low demand for minutes wrapped up in a free transfer. Xhaka comes with a bigger financial commitment along with a desire to get 3000 prem minutes. That doesn’t leave as many for Neil, ELF, Rigg, Diarra and Sadiki. Mind I’d have preferred another 20 year old YouTube sensation wonderkid over either. And that comes with its own problems:emoticon-0102-bigsm

The first bit looks a goer. What if the first bit needs the immediate impact bit to flourish?

I know we needed an extra midfielder but somebody of Xhaka's quality really does start to put some doubt on Dan Neil for me now. Xhaka you'd think would be pretty much guaranteed to start for us in his role.

no room for sentimentality, theres levels to the game and the goal of staying up is a massive challenge and a midfield of le fee, diarra, xhaka is not bottom 3.

Haha at least you know what you like.

In my mind it would provide the perfect balance to the midfield and give the lads you mentioned space and time to express themselves - although yeah maybe doesn't look good for Dan.

That’s the unknowable though. The whole experience thing is only true until it isn’t. At some point some team is gonna make a proper go at it with only young players. And at that point everyone will wonder why we all kept paying big wages to older pros. Maybe it’s best to let some other team prove that though:emoticon-0102-bigsm
