Aye, but we don’t have to choose one or the other is the point mate.
Yeah we do. Every choice we make is a choice not to do something else. We neither have nor are allowed to spend infinite money. So while it may be a minor effect, it’s still essential that the money we spend gets onto the pitch.

Good for them too. ****e how they got shafted with the SAD ruling in Spain and ended up down the leagues, those fans have suffered.

Prefer Sporting mind, incredibly passionate fans from a historical mining area. They wear red and white too!

I actually really wanted Racing to get up, similarly demoted due to financials absolutely cracking fans and a historic La Liga club.

Also was a big Racing fan one of the staff while I was away and he was so passionate and excited about them was infectious.

Sadly they got absolutely battered second leg.

That is absolute speculation at best and more likely absolute horse ****.

No way on gods earth does us signing one player eliminate us signing for a different position.

Correct, we won’t burn money for sake of it. We will absolutely be looking to build the whole squad.

Why folk are thinking we are going to try and penny pinch this opportunity is beyond me. There is nothing to support this theory at all.

It’s not speculation, man. It’s basic logic. If we spend in one place we have less to spend elsewhere.

That assumes we have a fixed budget and intend on spending 100% of it.

Signing a back up keeper for £3m isn’t going to mean we have to sign a worse right back. The club will have identified the positions they want to improve and will work on getting the right players at the right price. The budget will flex to fit

Aye if it wasn't Oviedo I was happy for it to be Racing. Another La Liga mainstay from when I was a kid!

Almeria yo-yoing is boring, Mirandes would be different from a minnows POV.

It makes no sense.

There’s literally no point spending at all if we are leaving holes in the squad.

Not having a keeper deputy would be an absolutely insane gamble. Moore is great off the park and has been fine, but he is woefully short of PL standard.

If we can’t drop a couple of million to cover a vital position we may as well forfeit the season.

We aren’t spending on a reserve keeper an amount that would seriously impact what we can spend elsewhere.

It means we’ve got £3m less with which to sign other players while keeping within our overall budget and PSR. It’s not really arguable. Now I recognise that my view is a bit niche, but it’s self evident that the whole thing is a balance. And if Patto gets injured on september 2nd then it’ll be a very good balance. However if the £3m we spend on a keeper sees the pitch as much as Nathan Bishop then it’d be fair to argue that we could have used that money better.

it is arguable. Because again that logic assumes we are intending to spend all of the money to get right on the wire of PSR. If we go in with a budget that leaves us £8m below PSR so we have wriggle room, which any sensible club would, then there is room to flex on players.

anyway I’m going to back out of this argument now because it’s genuinely utterly obscene that a club would go into a premier league season with a backup who isn’t ready to start 10 games. Genuinely mindnumbingly foolish, sorry mate. Luckily the club aren’t.

I’d genuinely put signing a backup keeper as a priority ahead of a third striker myself. It’s that important. The argument of “but we might not need them” is so so so foolish.

Re the sub keeper...what about Blondy? Is he no good? We've never seen him play first team games so he's still an unknown to me. There must be some folk on here who go to reserve games. What's he like? He was signed by our scouting network which we're all, generally, over the moon with.
He's awful, good character though and good for training.

You’re tying yourself in knots over budget there mind. Lots of words to try to say ‘we don’t have one’ or at least to ignore that even in your example that still constitutes a budget - and a choice to spend on one thing and not another:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0105-wink:

fair enough though. Going round in circles as you say. There’s no way that you’re more likely to need a sub keeper than a third striker though. We’ll have used three strikers by mid august!

(I just need to hope we haven’t used a second keeper by then:emoticon-0102-bigsm)

If we were to bring in a 'keeper (I think we should), it should be on a free if possible.

What about Yvon Mvogo? Out of contract and played under RLB at Lorient.

I mean either way we need to sign players for depth in other positions. Would you class the at as a waste? Or just have subpar depth?
