Think we also wanted a loan too, Shef Utd fell for it and ended up paying silly money

I genuinely would wince at anything above £7m. It’s just not the sort of deal you put big money down on in our position. We don’t generate enough to swallow write-offs of that level. Deals like that just increase the likelihood that you end up selling off your Crown Jewels to balance things down the line.

Didn’t we only want a loan too? Then buy if promoted. Similar to the Le Fee deal.

Good player angelino tbf, not totally sure he suits us but if the club want to push further I am willing to back it.

Lovely head of hair on him at the final though. Worth it for that alone.

15m for Angelino, a player who has been available for selection every week for 6 years and is presently better than cirkin, improves the team.

It is also very much the going rate for any premier league transfer and is likely only this price because roma need to sell, if roma were'nt in such a pickle im sure they would be extracting more, this would indicate shrewd business from sunderland.

It better to park the numbers and focus on the quality of the players, bemoaning potential fees and potential financial penalties when everything in the KLD era screams professional is a massive over reaction. Ipswich spent over 150m last summer and did not have 40m of incomings aswell, we're Sunderland, we might be starting to act like it, with some real competent ownership and again we have to spend otherwise it's a one way ticket.

For what its worth, Angelino at approx 15m in the premier leagues an awful lot more sense than 2.5m on Rusyn and 3.5m on Aleksic in the Championship.

Both were the biggest outlays in back to back summers, appalling in isolation.

Oh aye. But the mooted purchase price was absolutely crazy from memory. ‘All forgiven’ if you get up but it really hurts you at some point. It’s impossible to be perfect with transfers but in a PSR world it’s essential that you get as much for your money as you can - while minimising your waste.

I think you're being extremely unfair to Angelino like, he's 28 and a very good left back who's played at a high level and been available consistently. I do think 15m is a bit high like but he's nowhere near as bad as you're making him sound

He’s fine. But it’s unrecoverable money. If the lad was an absolute stick-on success - or if he was answering a need in one of the roles that is absolutely critical this summer - then I’d be more forgiving. But as it stands he’s mostly spent his career at mid-tier clubs, often spent seasons as something other than first choice, is getting towards the latter stage of his career and was available for £4m or so last summer. None of that screams ‘near transfer record’ to me. If you get that sort of player for a bargain then all good. And to be fair if there’s some release fee shenanigans that the press are overlooking then you’d imagine we’d be well aware now. But on the face of it I’d be absolutely astonished if that would be the best use of £15m for our club this summer.

Don't get me wrong I think he should be 8-10m at the most, but I do think we need to try and not hold so much value to our 'record fees' we have been out of the PL for so long that these record fees are now pocket change in the PL. I think we are gonna break these record fees multiple times this summer

Your 10 years in the past, fees have gone up relative to revenue exponentially year on year. I'd suggest you worry less about the money.

Ipswich broke our transfer record on Clarke, Delap, Greaves, Hutchinson and Philogene.

It is definitely worth noting that just because Roma got a massive steal shouldn't take away from angeliños worth - cost near on 20m just a couple years ago.

I’d argue you are tbh. Fee is a function of age and the prospect of recovery. The difference between angelino and the ones you mention is that all of them are many years before they get to the decline stage that Angelino is now approaching. Younger players cost more in fees because they retain their value longer. Angelino will never go for £15m again if he moves this summer. I’m genuinely astonished at the memory hole that you’re putting PSR in. Its the most impactful aspect of modern PL football and it’s effect is seen absolutely everywhere. We’re already at a disadvantage over every other PL club given our available losses in the current period. Using what we have as well as we possibly can is absolutely essential for the club every single season. But none more so than this one. We have to set ourselves up for long term success and that is only done by maximising ever my single pound we commit and minimising our errors as much as humanly possible.
