I'm not sure where you're getting this from, the only ready-made signing we have paid our highest fee for has been Isidor (until Enzo) and he was a great success. The rest of the high fees have been on players for the future (Aleksic and Abdullahi).

Rusyn maybe? - Also the higher you shop, the more quality you find, not as likely to have a dud like we did with Rusyn if we stick to the profile of player RLB wants. Players don't go for high fees and end up like Rusyn. More risk with players like him at 2.5m etc
Our ready made players have all done well (except Rusyn if he's in that category)

I'm still of the opinion a lot of those werent actually concrete links at all - but probably will never know totally. Lot of them just didnt make any sense for us at all.
Hope not. The linked strikers were almost universally ****:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Suspect most of them were true, given how much was semi-confirmed. Definitely represented a departure Would kinda forgive that thought as an effort to get us up - at least to an extent - but we’ve trailed this summer as a similar departure. Just hope the targets are MUCH more appropriate!

Sorry that attitude is absolute nonsense and a sure fire ticket to a PSR hellhole. There is no world where Sunderland AFC can afford to completely ignore the implications of transfer fees and ability to recoup them. While ability is always key, every single transfer we make needs to be viewed through the lens of PSR impact. And signing a player for £15m this summer who may not actually be an absolute slam dunk, when he’d likely be worth around £5m in a couple of years is storing up trouble. Bear in mind that he’s been floated as a potential pl signing for years now and nobody was all that interested - even when his price was less than a third of what these articles are suggesting.

We cannot - and must not - separate ability from price. Every single overpay is corrosive. And it most certainly will catch up with us eventually if we ignore it. This is what modern football is.

I dont believe we've over paid for anybody in kld's era tbf

I think there will have been some on a list, but does it not give credit to our decision making that we clearly decided they werent worth that?

Browne had a massive impact this season, maybe didn't show enough on the pitch but attitude off it was a big reason why the squad was so strong

This place is obsessed with transfers as its discussions on a transfer thread, which you post regularly on as well

We haven't had many big money signings since we've been out the PL for so long. Rusyn was a failure, hemir was worth the risk but it's not worked out and the other 2 'big' money signings are young players that only joined last summer so far too early to judge - hardly a disaster

A few of us are 'obsessed' with transfers as we watch a lot of football and often know the players we are linked with and are impressed by some of them

Our recruitment has been class, with only a few mistakes but that's the same for every team. Can't wait to see what we do in this window
As I say it’s fun discussion. Where I start to wonder, though, is when the opinion that spending £15m on an ageing euro-jobber might not represent the best use of our money is met with such incredulity. The current regime are brilliant. I get accused of being a happy clapper as much as anyone. But I’m not gonna assume 4d chess from them on every single move. Some of them just look a bit daft right from the start.

Browne having a massive impact is an Olympic sized stretch mind

Spot on, if the deals not right for the club they back out - love that

Not all signings will work out but we've had loads of successes

It's exciting being linked to the names we've been linked with when you consider who we've been linked with/signed over the years of being out the PL

Depends. That’s more difficult to know, but widely reported entry points for Cannon and Akpom were pretty wild given their unsuitability for the higher level. Striker tax and all that, but it felt like doing something new, different - and far from what I’d call an improvement. All conjecture and good discussion, though.

It's not an Olympic size stretch - it came directly from one of our most important players directly!! Moore also got a mention for how good he's been in the dressing room as did Hjelde and Salis

I agree some look daft to me but it's all rumours at the minute, let's wait and see who we sign and judge from there

I do hear things from time to time and I'm pretty confident we were never actively chasing Akpom and had just briefly enquired about the price, not sure about cannon but wasnt the last proper report that we were half their asking price (maybe there was a report of more im not sure).

Quibbling abiut the younger players, but we’ve certainly tried to. And this Angelino deal would be a wild one at the prices the press are quoting.

a big part of why we’re in a good position is our financial control. It’s what gives us a better platform to give us a chance to succeed. However now we’ve got here we’d be absolutely mad to think that there’s different rules now. We have to maintain exactly the same level of control if we want to establish ourselves.

Probably doesnt get appreciation because its not in the public eye but this will happen so much that doesnt get reported and some of the rumours that die down after a while will have been the same - Watching the NBA draft last night and my team made a pretty risky but ballsy trade, sometimes you have to trust your gut and get in the guy you like and i believe sunderland will be doing just that.

Fair enough. I just wish we weren’t paying a dedicated vibesman bosman wages!

This much is definitely true, I dont think he wants to come here though and although maybe we were initially interested around 10-12m theyre probably using "prem interest" to secure a saudi move.

My memory was we launched in very strong. Thought SUFC only wanted a loan initially. Not in the inner sanctum though so wouldn’t know for sure.
