Not sure much to read into it mate. No point naming it until all player buying and selling done. I still expect the club to sign at least one major player with experience and that he will be English.

He's the right choice. An outstanding leader with so much elite experience.

It's worth noting that it's not just Dan Neil relinquishing duties here but Xhaka is talking about captain on and off the field. I think we now have one captain with O'Nien stepping back from "club captain" as well.

If Neil takes all of this the right way, he could learn so much from Xhaka.

This for me. As I've said before it's probably an age thing, how tech savvy young people are. They need reminding about human values and morales.

They’ve got till tomorrow midday to register players for the weekend game don’t they?

Or is it different timescale with a game tomorrow?

Nail on head! We've moved up to a higher level and we've signed a player who can operate at that level. Why would we deny ourselves the qualities he can bring. If I was Dan Neil,I'd be relinquishing the Captaincy willingly and losing the pressure of it,signing a new contract and concentrating on learning as much as I can from GX.
    It's a golden opportunity for the lad,still only 24.
As far as Luke is concerned,he's an ambassador for the club....a figurehead. He knows he'll likely have a smaller part to play in our PL campaign, but he commands the respect he will continue to deserve.

You can start to see more players becoming available. We need to spend a week or 2 shifting players before a push to 2 or 3 at the end of the window

Yep. They've both done brilliant jobs and still have a big part to play if they want it. But Xhaka has been here and done it. He knows the way.

Seeing how kids are at academies from an early stage there should be no such thing nowadays. I taught myself to use my right foot from an early stage so I felt comfortable on either foot when I played, to the point people didn't know which was my stronger one.
    Just a lazy excuse imo.

I'm sure FIFA will have something to say about that. They don't like UEFA making so much money, hence why FIFA have started the world club cup thing!

I just hope it’s a quiet deadline day, nout worse that having glaring gaps in your squad going into the last day of the window, get everyone wrapped up around the Brentford game and a deadline day of shifting players out, then at 18:59 Amad appears out of nowhere

Woah woah woah. Somebody said it was his appartment and that he posts stuff from there a lot (I've got no idea if it is or not, and don't care in the slightest) so I pointed out you shouldn't post anything that distinguishes where you live on social media. Especially if you're a relatively easy target who's easy to track like a professional footballer.

Speaking as somebody who's been burgled during a holiday and told by the police it may well have been because my Strava posts showed to the metre where I live and also that I was away from home, and having the most traumatic experience of my life due to it, all I wanted to do was share the importance of not giving away your home address or even vague location. But I appreciated being called demented for thinking so, thanks.

Criminals are very sophisticated nowadays. Its not just some blokes in balaclavas.

Our players have lived in places other than Sunderland for decades, it's never been a problem, and I don't expect it to become one now, even if someone could virtually identify an exact position of where one has taken a 'photo from !
I visited Andy Hunt & his wife (work) at his home on The Quayside when he played for Curly Perm, I've had cuppas at Lee Clark's, Steve Howey's Pavel Srnicek's houses (and a few more), but I've never thought about doing anything that I shouldn't 'cos I support a rival team.

Speaking of which, and to lighten the mood, the first time that I met Keegan was in the changing rooms at Benwell training ground about 34 years ago (November '91, I think), where he was nude on his way to the showers (that's probably a claim to fame) <yikes>

Just because you can track down people’s information it doesn’t mean you have to …

… these days everyone seems to know everything about their ‘rights’, perhaps not quite so sure about their responsibilities.

Some things are best left with a touch of mystery and intrigue imo.

It’s like the subtle difference between asking a woman to put on stockings, for the evening, and discovering the fact by accident. …

… sometimes knowing less is better.
