I just reply hope we don't have any more niggles. We are down to bare bones defensively and not a competitive ball has been kicked. We really don't want to be putting young Harrison Jones in a position on Saturday. Would be the ultimate whooping down that flank.

Well it wouldn’t be ideal but you’d have to hope that isn’t the case.

A lot would depend on how the other players on that side are played and what tactics we use …

… Bowen is good but he’s not unstoppable.

A purely hypothetical question to whittle away the time.

Would people rather compromise on the quality of the centre backs we bring in to make sure they’re in for West Ham and are an upgrade on Ballard and Seelt (or the back four that sees Jones at left back) or….

Would they rather wait and get the very best options we possibly could at the very last minute of the window deadline?

The former being, say, a Creswell and the latter a, say, Diakite.

Time doesn't guarantee the best options. It could be the better options have been picked up and you move down the list in desperation. No matter which way it's looked upon the club need to seal the deals for the centre backs they deem worthy. Ideally, this absolutely should have happend by now.

I'm still relaxed about the CB situation, just, as I know the club are working hard to get these deals done. I (all of us) don't want to just sign a CB for the sake of it, it has to be a quality defender that improves us - sometimes that means waiting for that player. The club will have cut offs with targets, as they'll need to move on to the next CB on the list.

We all want a CB in for the West Ham game, the club will be the same however, the most important thing is getting the right player in. I was hoping to get a CB in by next weekend so they could play with Ballard tomorrow but that's not happening.

The key then is to sign them with enough time to get plenty of time with Ballard, Hume and Reinildo on the training pitch.

Someone like Lucumi has been playing plenty minutes in preseason and he's used to playing in a back 4 so i wouldn't be a concern if he didn't get much time on the training pitch with the lads.

Huggins or Seelt will likely come in if a CB isn't signed, I'd trust Huggins a lot more than Seelt. Really concerned by Seelts lack of physicality, despite his height. Huggins will struggle against Bowen but let's be honest most LBs do in the PL - the key is how we double up on him and stop him getting the ball in good positions.

It's always easy to focus on where we need to strengthen and forget about our strengths - i can our CM should dominate West Ham's, I think we can double up on them in the wide areas and isolated Fullkrug upfront

The bad news today is I'm working from home and no news ever breaks when I'm working fdom home, so I'll take the blame if nothing happens today folks
<laugh> You'd better change your plans and get yourself out to work then, instead of lazing around at home! Such selfish behaviour! Don't you understand what this means to the rest of us!:emoticon-0105-wink:

Of course but I personally would deem putting young Harrison there ( if that happened) as incredibly harsh.

Let's hope they can seal at least one player before next weekend. It's needed.

Ideally Newcastle would have some strikers tbf.

Totally, we need defensive reinforcements - theyll come.

I want them in soon, but the important thing is they have to be quality. Such an important position and we need to nail it

Haha I blame oasis, they are playing Murrayfield tonight and the tram would be a nightmare coming home from work so working from home instead

I was looking to try go again up there. But with the hotel due to the gig and fringe festival, I would be kipping rough!

I still think Lucumi gets done. Hopefully by Wednesday.
I do to be honest. Because his contracts running down the pressures on them as well as us. I also think we totally have a few other options for the second. I think we’re all just desperate to get this sorted because we want to win our first match back which is fair enough, Like Smug, I do get tired of a few posters repeating anxiety inducing rants though. It doesn’t need saying 60 times a week. We all want the same.

Agree. I'm seeing it as the final pieces of the jigsaw.

As cover. Van Dijk and Konate are a decent starting point.

That's a bit obvious. I didn't say they didn't have decent starters already. Would be a bit strange if the league winners from last season didn't have a couple of half decent CBs.....

My point is that the CB market is extremely tough this window, if we want quality in . Every club is competing for them

Whether Liverpool want cover or starting players is irrelevant.

In fact, if they only want cover I'd say that means they'll be looking at exactly the same CBs as us
