I think the majority realise the gulf in class, anyone whos kept the slightest bit up to date with the prem will see that. Spurs finishing 17th and Man U 15th says it all.

What I think people might overestimate is how far £100m actually goes. We've already spent £20m on ELF. Neil is possibly valued in excess of £10m and a lot will think he needs upgrading, if hes worth £10m, a true upgrade will be at least double that, then you are talking about near half of our budget just to replace Jobe and upgrade Neil and thats without even getting another to accommodate ELF.

The club will have to find some unreal deals in the £10m range and then be near perfect in the £20m range for us to have a decent chance. Hell of challenge for Speakman coming up.
I’ve seen some posts on both message boards and social media about finishing 12/13th man :emoticon-0104-surpr

I hope we’re shopping abroad. Looks like that’s where the value is

Forest, Bournemouth etc. have signed some cracking players for less than £15m in recent years

I really don't like being pedantic, but most of his career has been in the championship both in terms of seasons and games - I think he would be useful to sign and compete with Ballard to play as the RCB and gelled really well with our group but in terms of ability can maybe do better.

Aye?? Thought he’d been in PL for 5 or so with Bournemouth and he’s only 27. Ballard is a strange one he’d been really average for a long time before the last 3 games and he’s turned into a CB I don’t think I’ve seen at Sunderland for about a decade :emoticon-0102-bigsm

United are chasing mbeumo after signing cunha

they aren’t in Europe so where does this leave amad

he’s not a dual 10 nor is he a right wing back

I don’t think it’s a crazy idea especially if there’s terms which allows him to easily leave should we go down

Doucoure at everton worth a look for an experienced head in the middle? Could be the ‘big ****er’ we crave :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I really dont see Regis rotating players in the league games at all mind. Suspensions and injuries will be about it. I am not sure we will keep players like Neil and Rigg long if they arent starting games. In particular Neil, he shouldnt rotation at this point in his career. He wont be short of suitors if we dont fancy him as a mainstay next season.
I think Regis’ preference for a stable XI with few subs needs to be taken into account. Chances are our squad doesn’t need to be quite as big as people think. There’ll be injuries of course but you can’t build a squad to cover all eventualities. Hopefully we prioritise versatility as well as everything else with our summer signings.

I’m very confident we can achieve that. Brighton have pulled out some right bangers. Caicedo was signed for 4.5m. Imagine we get someone like that to replace Dan. I feel like we have a similar scouting system to the likes of Brighton, so I expect some low cost signings to turn out brilliant for us now. We should never judge a player by his price tag at this club.

I think we will continue the 4-4-2 out of possession shape with ELF in the “Rigg” 10 role and another dominant midfielder replacing Jobe.

I’d worry about having Neil and ELF as our “6” and “8” so for me if Neil is starting we need to keep ELF further forward with a more physical partner in the Jobe role.

enzo is in the midfield 2, we need a Jobe clone

neil is not worth persisting with if it’s keeping Enzo out of position

Enzo played 30 mins in his best position all season in that final and it showed

Did 4 prem seasons with them as well as 2 champo with em and 3 with brentford.

Ballard does possibly seem more suited to the prem.

I agree with this but id put money on Dan Neil starting and captaining the opening game.

I’ll put my tin hat on but he had an good middle third to the season but the start and end were very poor for a player with apparent premier league interest

if I was being toxic to he’s delayed signing a contract and I don’t think his performances deserve one, we can do better imo

Tin hat isn’t required. Some of his performances were absolutely shocking and I love the lad. Should’ve been hooked earlier on Saturday. Really poor

His glaring weakness for me is how many times he is caught in possession in dangerous areas. He largely got away with it in the championship, he’d cost us goals most games in the premiership. Not saying he can’t correct that but he shouldn’t be starting for us until he’s sorted that and got up to speed with the premier league.

Footballers also live in the real world and will back themselves to get into the team. I’m hardly suggesting we sign players and tell them they’re 4th choice. Mepham would jump at a premier league offer
They arent daft mate either. He has been relegated to sub since Ballard is back. He will already be looking at options imo. If he sees us splashing money on a top centre half, which I think we should, I reckon he will look for a place to play. He should do too.

There is a more general point here though. We are all on board with strengthening the team. But we cant realistically expect a 27 year old with International ambitions to be a sqaud player. Same with others like Neil and Rigg. They arent going to be interested in going from regulars to something else. Sportsmen dont operate like that. This talk of being rotation options doesnt seem realistic either. Our premier league team will be set of thereabouts. Suspensions and injuries will be about it. We arent going to letting Rigg and Neil take turns.

My overall point is as we strengthen we would be mad to assume some of our current squad will hang around for less game time. That is ok, if the club deem new lads better, of course.

17th would be a bigger achievement than promotion this year imo. That graphic with squad cost was kind of funny really. £150m behind the next lowest team.

Abroad will be the way imo. Better value and probs better quality. Stay away from the Championship, just not value for money in that league imo. Then I'd be using our loans on some older heads similar to the Meptham deal, where we wont have to pay big fees for lads with no resale value.

Not a single doubt about it. Bring it on.

Has to be. I’d hate to end up with a squad like Ipswich, which will it’ll be a good squad next season, they signed loads of players who are all about as good as each other. We need some quality additions not players on par with what we have and no real options on the bench. They’ve got 3/4 players on each wing who are no worse than each other so there’s no real point imo. Spend more and just sign one player who’s quality and have a back up.

If possible Id love us to bring in a couple of British lads to keep that nucleus but they are so overpriced at this level. Not sure if there are u21 internationals from Britain that could be good enough, affordable and realistic.
