They ****ed up against the teams around them. 2 points against Leicester and 1 point against Southampton When you’re battling relegation, it’s absolutely vital you beat the sides in and around you We’ll be targeting wins against Leeds, Burnley and Wolves mostly.
I think you have nailed it mate. It is why I think targeting 5, maybe 6, is the way to go. Supplement with a loan or two if really essential. Every tfr is a gamble and whilst we have done some very good deals, we have also done some poor ones. The gulf is clearly huge. But I should imagine we are the youngest team to go up in a while. We therefore have a lot of scope to improve as we go up. The togetherness of the squad and fans is another massive thing in our favour. If we can replicate atmospheres like Coventry we could pick up points at home others havent been able to. New players are necessary, but there is a fine line between too few and too many imo. Spend well on 5 would be far more impactful than spreading thinly the money over 8. For me anyway.
Breaking news. Top European talent is wanted by top European clubs. tie him down, we’ve got the ball in our court
There’s always a sinker as well. I feel Bournemouth might get ripped apart and lose gaffer to Spurs, even Brentford might take a hit if they lose a couple. I even think Forest could have a tough year. They likely lose the 2 CB and Gibbs-White
He did. But lets not forget Sheff Utd looked ragged by then, Hamer was off knackered and Wilder had lost the plot. He was very good, it remains to be seen whether he can do that in the prem for me. I think he might well, but it I harbour some doubts.
Going nowhere. Next year though, I boldly predict he will be comfortably the biggest sale in clubs history.
Yeah, I'm in agreement with you. 5 or 6 players under 25 to come into start. Couple of loans for players in their later 20s. Then of course those Aleksic type signings to consider for the future. Am I right in thinking we can only sign 6 u21 players from abroad in a season when in the prem? Or is that my football manager brain taking over.
I think so, harsh on the lad as I reckon if we stayed down he’d play a massive part, but needs consistent game time and we could have a top talent on our hands
Needs one. One of our potential best can’t spend a season kicking his heels. Good club like a Derby or Wednesday be lovely, even Charlton maybe.
You'd have thought so. Where is the question, would a Championship team take him? Any lower I think is a bad environment for him. Then abroad would spoil some of the work done in terms of adapting to the country and the area. Could also have a tasty u21 team after this summer that we might think is best for him too. If we can get him to the Championship or even up to Scotland, I think that would be the way to go. Hibs did well with Triantis. EDIT - when i mentioned him it wasnt for him to be involved, it was for signings like him for the u21s.
The more I think about our current squad, there’s so many we need to shift, even out on loan Busy summer ahead
Aye they weren’t terrible by any means but its a difficult one to judge for me because they’ve added depth for sure but it’s more the fact they spent about £50-60m on Clarke, Ogbene, Szmodics (to play as a 10) and Omari Clarke-Hutchinson. Then signed Ensiso on loan and Philogene for £20m in January. Granted Philogene picked up in an injury late in the season but those 2 were their first choices for most of the season half of the season barring injuries. Hutchinson and Szomdics cost them nearly £30m and neither as good as Ensiso who they got on loan. They could’ve used that £30m on a quality central midfielder and had Chaplin as back up if they just moved at the start of the season. Conor Chaplin was off the back of 2 great seasons, is Szmodics really an upgrade on him? Ogbene barely featured, Clarke doesn’t really fit their system although I don’t think he was necessarily a bad signing.. but is he really THAT much better for them than Broadhead? Feel like they could’ve spent that money on a few solid additions who are nailed on starters that you know are quality above the rest especially in the middle of the pitch.
Move in quick for Tyler Dibling? He’s streets ahead of our young midfielders and has already shown he can handle the premier league. That would be ambitious as he’s probably got the top teams moving for him already.
Fully agree mate. Think we have a stronger starting point though and we buy better. I just think despite them going down, their overall showed it’s a gap that we can bridge, if you get me?
As I was reading your post it got me thinking that despite the huge challenge we face, one advantage we have is that we have seen so many different ways of trying to tackle closing the gap. We have seen what has worked, what has got close and what has been miles off. We have our strategy of course, that I dont think we should divert from but the past few years will hopefully show us the positive of some strategies and the weaknesses of others.
Had my first ‘I’ve heard summat’ text. Kossonou plays for Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta declining buy option. Sounds far fetched but it’s the first one I’ve had so am sharing
