Granit Xhaka has informed Bayer Leverkusen that he only wants to join Sunderland, as club-to-club talks continue over a deal for the Swiss midfielder.

An agreement is now in place between Xhaka and the Premier League club, with the 32-year-old prioritising a move to Regis Le Bris’ men over other suitors.

Leverkusen have been asked by Xhaka to close the proposed transfer rapidly and negotiations over the Switzerland international are ongoing to find a solution.

Just mean they have shipped £140m of talent. They will miss Wirtz a lot, and Frimpong. They arent a poor side by any means, but I doubt they can replicate the level of the last 2 seasons. Could be completely wrong of course. But we all know the head coach carries the can, and following Xabi needs a lucky or very talented coach.

Aye. Alonso impossible to follow I agree they needed a fall guy.

They still look the second best squad in the league, which shows how strong a squad they’d put together.

They got an extra year out of Alonso by promising him he could keep everyone, a bit of a dismantle was always happening this summer.

They ****ed up not raising Frimpong release clause mind.

And to be fair to Ten Hag, he hasnt said anything wrong. I dard say if the agent of one of ours put this in the media in the way he has we would applaud a hard line response.

If we want him we are going to have to pay more than we would like. That is my sense of it. Leverkuesen cant be in need of the money.

Look at Isak. If you go to war with the player you end up with a problem that creates another problem. Take a a longer look at the Man Utd he left behind.

So are we confident this still happens?

I’m only less so now because it’s a pretty big thing for Ten Hag to say, if Xhaka leaves now he looks like a right twat. But I know ultimately it’s not his decision.

I dont think Xhaka is ths type to be an unhappy player personally. A couple of days ago it was all about family being happy in Germany if the media are to be believed. If we dont agree a fee, or he changes his mind again, I reckon he would still play to his best level for Lerverkuesen. They will know that.

Aye we don’t get on like and I’m not willing to even speak about him but I think it comes from a place of us not being allowed nice things so anything that rubs against the grain for us gets analysed far too much.
