If we’re played through it’s because the ball is being moved fast. Size doesn’t solve that issue. Mobility and energy does.
That’s one thing I’m envious of, great for your coach you are moving fast. Maybe they are just more realistic targets, maybe we’re setting our sights too high, who knows.
The other forum I’m on which is obviously fans of all clubs are all universal in their opinion that we’ve bought well and are giving it a go. Everyone was telling us we were ****ed and might as well not bother in the prem. so we’ve gone and signed lots of players and now are being told we shouldn’t have. it’s bonkers.
What I cant wait for really is to see the reaction of the existing lads in training. I think Mundle will raise his game and he has levels to find if he really has the right mentality. I think he does. Mundle has a proper attitude about him. Will fight his way out of any situation. I love his backstory too where he left Spurs for the continent to play. Spurs were gutted to lose him. We are yet to see 80% of what Mundle can do imo. Him and Adringa going hammer and tongs for the jersey - I would pay good money just to watch training now. It would be magnificent to coach these buggers. I would be quietly confident Rigg, Neil and Hume let a few know they are here, in a friendly way. Training will go through the roof in terms of quality, and these new coaches will make it more so. There was a little video I always remember when Jobe signed. They were running in pre season and afterwards he was on his back. Neil was having a little laugh with someone about him and went over and pulled him to his feet and gave him a hug. I bet there is a bit of that going on in the next week or so. It brings camaraderie and standards. God I miss pre-season. It is far from sure in my mind the existing players become depth players as some call it. I think some have ability crying out for a premier league stage. It will be fun to watch. One thing I have banged on about on here is your earn your right to play in a match based on the training during the week. Nothing more or less. That is true anywhere where squads are deep. Keane used to drive standards in training that some said were higher than match days. I honestly think this is what will drive us this season. People might laugh at this, but Neil drives incredible standards day to day. Really elite standards. All of a sudden we have players coming in who will require those standards to be hour to hour, not day to day. Somebidy like Diarra will bring unreal standards I think. Reinaldo even more so. I watched some Simeone coaching - wow. I think we get Henderson and he will be like the Bryan Robson when Keane arrived, or the Emlyn Hughes at the Liverpool transition. You can only deliver in a matchday if your training and prep has been 100%. I am waffling now, but I would bet good money our training sessions next season are in the top 10 of the league. That will stand us in good stead.
This our squad is better than your squad is pretty tedious, all 3 promoted clubs need the others to be strong and taking points of as many teams as possible. last season in particular they weren’t and it mean those teams that could get dragged in always stayed out of any real pressure situations as the bottom 3 weren’t hugely competitive. actually add to that we also want the top 10 to be almost unbeatable by anyone outside of the that top 10 we need it to turn into a tight battle between a large number of teams, let’s drag loads of the ****ers in and see how they cope the the pressure
I’d hate to be you lot right now. You sound as miserable as sin. No excitement, you don’t seem to be enjoying what’s happening with Leeds now. Just set yourself for a long hard season For the record, I believe every Sunderland fan knows we are in for a hard slog. We are just excited to face it head on and see what the team does.
this. I thought we were going to be fighting a losing battle this season and for the first time since promotion even became possible I feel like there’s some hope we might actually stay up. that’s exciting.
I don’t really care what we have spent. Diarra is a dominant midfield type. Taibi has won man of the match awards in CL. Reineldo played 100 games in 2.5 years for Simeone. Fans of clubs that aren’t Leeds or Burnley are all tipping us to be the surprise package. If it was you, Burnley. Wolves , Brentford or West Ham I’d also bury my head in sand and downplay them. They are stunning signings for a newly promoted side. Rigg. Mayenda, Hume, Neil and Ballard will all grow into PL, likely Mundle and Cirkin too. These are young lads with hundreds of games behind them and most of them for us. Folk writing off the players we had cos we finished a gap back after basically having a 3rd of a season resting are mad. We sold the most replaceable corn jewel for a max fee and replaced him with a lad who’s played top tier for 3 years and captained his club at 21, before destroying England. We’ll be alright mate.
Genuine question. Are the opinions of us largely Leeds supporters ? Most Manchester (both teams) fans I met last weekend knew very little about our signings, similarly many at work from a range of teams. The Burnley and Leeds fans however are keeping a close eye. You’d think for a minute we were hypersensitive about relegation !
You would have thought us signing the first choice left back for Athletico Madrid was realistic? You have been in for the same players as us. Sadiki has openly stated that he turned you down to sign for Sunderland .
Rigg Mundle Hume Mayenda have such a class, never give up aggressive attitude. I really hope they step up
I was replying to the “what PL experience” quote unless I misread the point. Struijk, Aaronson and Gnonto were on fire the first few games they played in the PL, Bamfords first season he bagged 18 goals but I’m ignoring him Sometimes you just need the right mix, Bielsa was ravaged with injuries and the players were broke season two, Jesse was a clown. We haven’t signed Bijol to sit on the bench, Sebastian Bornauw is going to surprise a few, apparently we had been after him since January, Nmecha on a free is good business. We’ve made some clever signings targeting players in final years of their contract
I think I’d say most Sunderland fans would snap your hands off for 40 points and 17th place. There may be some in here that disagree with that but I’d be over the moon. An even better achievement than coming up in the first place.
They saying they only bid £7.5m, however USG confirmed they accepted their bid and that they let him talk to Leeds and Frankfurt. They weren’t accepting £7.5m. Lad said straight up ‘was a better project’
Where we may have spent a little extra than others would have in fees we have gotten the targets we want for the sake of say 20m total over spending I'd rather get the manager the players he wants and in early At least we have backed the team, can be no arguments for the staff Don't get extra points for getting bargain transfers there are just a by product of good recruitment, seen diarra fee been mentioned as one we may have overpaid by roughly 5m, if he has a good season and we go down we won't be losing money
I have a lot of faith in RLB- he was having meetings with Speakman a long time before our promotion and will have been quite specific on what we required on being promoted and surviving . Speakman and the recruitment team have done a fantastic job job in recent years and they will have done their utmost for RLB who now needs to mould the players in to a team and being astute enough to change formations to good effect. Let’s be honest we can’t complain after last years efforts . Let’s the management team do their jobs .
