Pretty sure the 10 day period of mourning up to the funeral will state no sporting events in that period.

So if the funeral is Saturday they COULD rearrange for sunday. But I reckon they just postpone all 3 rounds of fixtures and push them to next year. They could feasibly decide to extend the season to accommodate considering its every team in the country affected
I’m not sure about extending the season with it already being a bit longer ( I think) due to the World Cup. Owt is possible till we hear officially though.

My missus read somewhere yesterday that the funeral would be Monday week 19th i think, which would include businesses shutting for the day.
Know nowt about cancelled matches, but clubs need to know in the next couple of hours.

If they cancel all the games they’ve got to extend the season as we’ve already got this winter break for the world cup

Even if next weeks games are on - if the funeral or any event happens over weekend, there’s a chance that the Met will call on Herts Constabulary officers from Watford which might put our game in jeopardy

If the funeral is next Sat (my son's birthday) then there is no chance games will be on.

Won't be next Sat, earliest the funeral will be is next Sunday which is the 10 day point but it's been mentioned that it could be the Monday 19th. Sunday makes more sense as majority of people won't be at work anyway.

playoff finals have a huge influence on it being very difficult to extend season, Wembley will be booked by now likelihood for other dates, the EFL wont want to shift to other grounds due to loss in revenue

I think all bar the funeral day games should carry on. It’s the family and friends that need time to grieve. None of us even knew her. Mind I’d take a few cancellations cos we have Stewart injured.
Yeah you might be right. When I posted that I was thinking along the lines that 'The queen is dead, lets all run out and have a game of football at the weekend' didn't seem right. But I can see there's a lot of room for others to think differently. I still think FA and Sky etc are chumps though.

It wouldn't surprise me if a part of there thinking was how certain clubs would potentially behave during any pre game tribute to the queen.

decent point this

I'm a football fan, so I mean absolutely no ill towards my fellow fans - but rugby and cricket fans can probably be "trusted" to not boo a national anthem the way SOME football fans MIGHT.

however I think the sentiment has been misjudged there. I genuinely think the reaction would be overwhelmingly patriotic and they've ****ed up

I fully agree and I think the vast majority of football teams, fans etc would have been involved in wonderful patriotic tributes, but there is that nagging thought it will have come up in conversations and to the need to " protect the brand"

This isn't Russia and we shouldn't try to manipulate the way our population appears imo. If some people are of a mind to boo we should allow them to do so and be held up to public account.
