We've been linked with Michu in today's Sun and on the Tribal Football website.

Attacking midfielder, very pacey, 26 years old and scored 15 in 30 for Rayo Vallecano in this season's La Liga.

Has been watched by scouts from Athletico Madrid and Manchester United in recent months too and would cost around £5m as his contract runs out this time next year.

The Sun reports today were lining up a bid for £5m-rated midfielder Michu from Rayo Vallecano he has scored 15 goals this season.

Apparently Fulham, Wigan and WBA are all interested also.

Has anybody with knowledge of La Liga other than the top 4 heard of him or seen him play?

Have also read last night that apparently we are after Gregory van der Weil of Ajax on loan!

This guy is supposedly one of the best full backs in Europe. A RB!

I'd love us to get a right back with great set piece delivery to mimic Fox's from the left. It would also allow Lallana, our best technical player to wait outside the box from corners to hit any dropping balls. Anybody know of a RB with this sort of quality? Preferably somebody who can get the ball up & down á la Zemmana (Boro vs us) too. Feel we're a bit 1 dimensional from direct set pieces now, teams have found out Lambert's technique. Obviously Srna would be the mould but somebody more realistic...

Van Der Wiel plays regularly for Holland. Played in the World Cup final if I'm not mistaken. That would be a ridiculous signing.

He has no pace at all, he is not prem class. If you want to just keep the players we have the club will stagnate. Cortese won't want this so i can see alot of people going tbh.

Yes but he will be coming up against a lot higher quality of player than Coventry have to offer. I personally would like to see a new RB and LB signed with Fox and Richardson dropping to back up.

My comments were just as much to do with the fact that many people rave about Danny Fox and his contribution, and I also see what he has to offer. But I also see a player who makes wayward passes, is often caught out of position, is beaten in the air despite not being the shortest bloke, and remarkably, lets a half-decent winger get round him, too often.

Butterfield actually reads the game quite well, because of his experience, and is a half-decent RB, who can put a pin-point cross into the danger area. I feel he is often placed on the wrong side of the black or white that is the football fan's idea of how to sum up a player, i.e. they are brilliant or crap, with nothing in between. Yes, he is probably not PL quality nowadays, but can serve as back-up to Frazer in the first season. Fox has all the right physical attributes, yet I feel that he may get badly exposed in the Prem, unless he sharpens up his concentration.

Yes, perhaps even Frazer isn't quite good enough, as well. One could want to sign another 11 players. In fact. let's sign the entire ManU squad, just to be on the safe side. ;)
I suspect, in 3-4 seasons, the only current first team players we'll see in the side are Schneiderlin, Lallana and perhaps one or two others, and for different reasons, I'm not hugely confident of that view either.

It's a poser for Nigel. Does he unsettle the team with a clutch of new signings or give the current squad half a dozen games to see what they are made of. That's why he's manager. After the last two seasons I trust him and NC to make the right decsions!

Yep I've heard of him. One of the surprises of the season over there. Would we really need another striker/AM though?

I think the point is that our 3 CM's scored 4 goals between them last year. To be successful, especially in the Premiership, you really need a goal-scoring midfielder. This guy is exactly what we've been missing!

He's a winger

Exactly.

While we are suggesting who might be good enough for the PL and who may not be, the club are quietly going over the statistics on various players and comparing them to what we already have. Factor in that NC wants to work towards a self sustaining SFC, and the cloth has to be cut accordingly. This means that Saints may have to rely on many of the current squad, perhaps for the first season or two, that several here would rather we shipped out. But I hve absolute confidence in NA and NC to make the right decisions as well.

Next subject..? ;)
