My main problem with the Danns signing is we allowed ourselves to get into a position where we had to take a punt on him after failing his medical.

In reality the medical should have happened a day or two earlier so that we could say “never mind” and move onto the next target.

The real problem is leaving everything to deadline day

Was he not deadline day last minute cause other signings hadn't come off? No inside knowledge or owt from me just a question?

I think we reworked the deal after he failed the medical so that we have paid nothing and we just had the chance should he have got some fitness to use him.

But yeah did feel a bit like nothing else came off so let's just confirm something.

We're fortunate that Mayenda really kicked on even further after Christmas imo, because we were potentially short of a striker and Speakman got this one wrong, which was obvious at the time tbh.

On the whole, we do exceptional transfer business but there's always lessons to learn from the failures.

Wonder if he comes back next year if we’re still in the championship? Wouldn’t be against a fully fit Danns as an option, not sure where it leaves the likes of abdullahi Ogunsuyi etc though

Out on loan hopefully. Ogunsuyi especially could do with playing mens football and 35 appearances in League 1 or 2 is going to be far better for his development than 10 minutes off the bench every month for us.

I wish we weren’t proven right in this case mate. But was clear on deadline day

I genuinely always hope I am wrong when I say these things at the time. But physiology and objectivity usually means it will come out in the end.

We have done loads right. But Christ these injury based signings need knocking on the head

Wasn’t there a rumour trey was leaving? How long he got left on his deal? I know AA was probably but his lack of play for any of the teams is dissapointimg. Wonder what kind of striker we target in the summer with already having Wilson and EM

If we’re still in the champ we haven’t got enough minutes for Wilson and Mayenda. I’d be avoiding the subject entirely this summer.

Would only look to bring one in if we plan on playing 442 (or another 2 striker shape) more often. Invested a decent amount of money in Abdullahi and time in Trey/Finn so they need a pathway.

Right wing, fullback depth and a true creative midfielder are my personal priorities if we don't go up and that's before we look at replacing outgoings.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised, they will probably be swayed by the money. Liverpool keen on him and his brother.

Do you honestly believe that was our choice?

Absolutely. It’s mind blowing given the overall magnificent progress in transfers.

Danns, now even fit he was a punt so it should never have been a consideration if he wasn’t fit.

I see the logic in the Salis one we thought he could be fit sooner, and he had a great pedigree, Abdullah is fine cos he was to be out player, but the Danns one carries not a stitch of logic.

Yes we have had some questionable transfers/loans when it comes to existing injuries ....but put against the overall transfer policy, I don't think we have done too bad.
Most, if not all clubs buy or loan players that simply don't work out for one reason or another. for Sunderland I think we may have learned our lesson when it comes to buying or loaning in players with a well documented injury history...at least I hope so. The Danns fiasco should have underlined that

You’d hope so, but there’s no evidence to support this given that literally the last signing we made was crocked.
