His fitness is vital, especially with the type of striker we need.

We basically need him to be as effective as he was previously. Constantly pressing and harassing defenders, always on the move dragging defenders out of position, and being a handful in the air.

With the type of injury he sustained and how serious it was, I doubt he’ll be as effective as he was.

He's been desperately unlucky with injuries, but I think he is a top character, one of the best I've seen in fact, he was playing part-time with Albion Rovers at age 21. He won international caps 5 years later, that is an unusual trajectory. If anyone can reinvent themselves, it is people like that.

Its purely sentimental this wanting him to come back

we need someone who is ready, would be incredibly poor and will show a lack of everything if he was to come in

I don’t doubt his character and work rate, but I really doubt he’ll ever get close to being fit enough to rediscover that form.

Shame for him really, was definitely potential premier league quality.

I'm not sure Ross Stewart would be the answer for all the reasons others have mentioned.

But can you imagine a fully fit Ross Stewart in this team under this manager's style? :headbang:
Bit in bold will be perfect, and probs genuine top 6 contenders - maybe even top 2 if we kept our star players and they all stayed fit.

Sadly won’t happen though.

If Stewart gets fit but is only 80% as good as before, he's still worth considering if the deal is right. Even as an option off the bench would give the opposition more problems than we can currently pose. Plus he can help at both ends on set pieces.

Big 'if' at the start there, I know.

Would his heart be in it? Given how quickly he jumped ship...

He loved it here and didn't want to leave, adored his relationship with the supporters, but I think we were offering around £10k a week and he was looking to secure his future as a 27 year old. Football is a short career, sometimes we have to sacrifice in one area to gain in another.

Just in case you're wondering, yes, he would be back like a shot.

Same as has been said, just too much of a gamble with the injuries.

The lad was brilliant for us and a great fit, but I agree he will struggle to ever get back to that level now.
Id take stewart on loan plus a signing like Mendy

If stewart gets close to what he was like then he will be class. Would hate to see him going on loan to another team and playing class in our league

Trouble is he left a sour taste in some peoples minds with the “ joining a big club statement “. Yes I know he was only saying that to get onside with his new cubs supporters but we are a far bigger club in every way. We did cracking business to get the money we did but I doubt he could withstand the pace and physicality of the league again.

Agree. Just a hell of a gamble on his fitness.

Love the lad, we were in the corner behind the goal at Wembley his shot went in so we were in the first group to know it was in and we were up, that memory and love for the fella is eternal.
