Not so sure, that game is a week tomorrow. Unless he signs tomorrow I really don't think he'll be fit enough. Look at Poveda, he didn't even make the bench for a pre season game
Think I get the whole Dodds and Proctor thing, but from what I can see from the pre season we seem to have moved from a defensive mind set (Beale and Proctor adopted this) to a more offensive set up which is more like the first season under TM. I do think that defensively there is still some work to do but I am hopeful of a much more entertaining season than last year and hope we can score a few more goals than we did as this will inevitably help move us further up the table.
Our goals conceded in last 2 seasons is very similar so if we can keep it their or their abouts and score a few more it will have a big impact on league position.
I suppose it depends on how good his personal plan is. He’s still trained with Caen just separately im sure
I wouldnt sign anyone who hasnt had a pre season. I have never seen a player miss a whole pre season and then have a good season, at least as good as they can be. That base fitness is never repeated at any other point in the season.

Be a shame to have both mendy and poveda playing catch up, I know it’s not always possible but if we’d signed them both 5 weeks ago they could be flying by now

What about when a player in injured, for a month like Clarke, the comes straight back into the team ...
... or spends two months on the subs bench before he gets a chance.

Mate, it is about base level of fitness. Or maybe I am a bit out of touch, but dont think so. Different coaches want different things, but it looks to me like Regis is after that high press which requires players to run more and run harder.
Pre season is when you can put everything into building that cardio. Then on top of that comes the mental capacity to make great decisions when fatigued. Once the season starts there isnt the time to replicate that because games come thick and fast.
Injured players can often keep a base fitness level. Swimming, static cycling etc. Subs still have had that base, which is then maintained throughout the season. We have all seen unused subs being worked hard post match on the pitch.
Others will know more than me. Prehab for example. But my experience is we build to a fitness level over 6 weeks and then keep it at a constant. Maybe some players are different, and are always at that level of fitness or close to it, but I doubt it is common. When I played, I ran half and full marathons during the summer. First two weeks of training always killed me though - fartlek and all that stuff
They made around a £25million profit in the transfer market in 22/23 and 23/24, they are spending that money. We have made a transfer loss in the same time period, hence why they have money to spend and we don't.
