It's not easy getting strikers to score 15 goals or more. When you look at the top 10 scorers in the Championship last season, 6 of them were out and out strikers:

Adam Armstrong - 21 goals - signed for £15m
Jamie Vardy - 18 goals - signed for pennies, but he is/was a PL player
Haji Wright - 16 goals - £9m
Josh Sargent - 16 goals - £9.5m
Emmanuel Latte Lath - 16 goals - £5.5m
Che Adams - 15 goals - £15m
This is why I think looking in Europe could be a good idea, get someone cheaper than an English league player and they will have goals behind them too similar to Latte Lath. Give them time and don't rotate 4 strikers every game and we should get one firing

Also Latte Lath was euros so it would have been £4.5m

I don't think jobe had an outstanding season. He had a good one.
Aye. Would’ve had a better one as well if he wasn’t played constantly despite some poor performances. How he remained on the pitch some games baffled me. Mags in the cup - should’ve been hooked at HT at the very latest. Passenger.

I don't think fee is that inflated. Will be performance add ons. Same as Simms. Get what you pay for most of the time. We spent more on Rusyn, Hemir, Mundle, Mayenda.
To us the fee is inflated though and would be the highest non pre arranged transfer fee in the championship this summer outside of Joe Rodon.

Simms was a bad transfer for Coventry, his poor form to start the season probably cost them a playoff spot.

Personally think it's a mistake if we don't sell someone for big(ish) money this summer to fund signings. Until we do we won't be shopping in the £5m+ markets.

Because he was our second biggest goal threat and when Clarke was out he was the biggest goal threat.

Just going to say as well, if the club spent that on Parrott it wouldn't have went down well.

I think he's pretty good but better alongside another striker or just off a main forward.

They have been dismissed so far due to performance or a lack of one.

Hemir looked like he couldn't be arsed for senior and u21 football. RLB likes his forwards to press so that will continue to rule Hemir out.

Mayenda was a shot in the dark. Hardly played a handful of senior mens football. Got loaned out and couldn't make the Hibs starting squad.

We need better than both to have a successful season.

Hopefully the new man has a better outlook on them than yourself.

They have been dismissed and that may be harsh given age and experience but I can only go on what I’ve seen.

Hemir, in his albeit, limited opportunities did nothing to suggest he was the answer. his performances were at best lethargic and at worst seemingly completely disinterested.

mayenda came in in one home game was unlucky not to score, was shipped off to hibs and couldn’t get off their bench.

Lots of mitigating factors, young, new country, how do you get better if you don’t play etc etc

I really hope both improve and become good players for us but atm it feels like they are a million miles away from even being in the squad.

Maybe TM bombing him out on the opening day of the reason and his unwillingness to mould his team around a striker had a part to play.

Clean slate for me.

Given our financial situation (sustainability and a low wage ceiling) then I think we have 3 possible approaches:

1. Loan a young player from the PL (Burstow, Archer, Jebbison etc)
2. Take a punt on a player from the lower leagues (Dion Charles, Devante Cole, Alfie May)
3. Find a striker from abroad who can get us goals

Not saying the names I've listed are who we should go for, just for illustrative purposes. I also think the club could take 2 of those 3 options this season, rather than only going down 1 particular avenue.

Goals are not cheap to buy, so I understand why they have gone for youth players, but as @Prehab26 said - we need to see a hell of a lot more from Hemir and Mayenda

To be fair I think either of Stewart and Simms would’ve hit 20 easily for us if either of them managed 35+ games in the 22/23 season they were both scoring for fun and we were creating loads of chances.

Gallagher could be a canny shout, after watching clips he seems to be able to move about well, his rumoured fee was only 2m in jan. Luton and Swansea both after him this summer

Just looking at objectives facts and performance.

I didn't make the comparison you did. I replied with facts.

Was a strange one given the age and position they play, but you made it anyway.

Agree with this, but for an 18 year old, first season playing out of position at times ,I think there's more to come and he will have a good career

1 in 5 record at this level or something woeful like that, not good enough imo.
