Extra £2m in the coffers thanks to Southampton mind. Not sure if anyone’s already posted it, but, despite about 7 touches of a football this season, we get £2m more! Say what you want about Speakman, this was unbelievable business!
I wonder if there is anyway we can get him back. Now they are a prem club. Dear Southampton, keep that £2m, plus all other add ons, and we will take him off you. Still a hell of a good striker and the type I think our supposed new head coach would want.

I do hope he goes to Chelsea as he’d be a good signing for the Mags on a free…

This. Would be absolutely class. A goalscoring striker and a goalscoring right winger plus him and we’re going up. Would Clarke stay if he came?
Get him moving with his coaching badges etc and we may already have a potential head coach with experience at the very top.

it would be such a smart move all round

I don’t think he’d stay either then. He could stay and hope it happens with us or go and be guaranteed it now. Absolutely couldn’t blame him for backing himself and going now

You can criticise the choice of players he goes after but he does very well in negotiations with other clubs and with the players themselves. We get good deals these days and if we don't want to sell we'll play hardball indefinitely.

Well said. I’ve been trying to put similar into words for a while.

Possibly, but very few get it right every time. Ballard, Clarke etc gave him an almost free pass. If any of the lads he signed last summer come good, handed sre we’ll be in a good place. Big if.

The vitriol fir not signing a recognised (instead position) might be justified, but he hasn’t yet gone anywhere near previous failings imo.

Does anyone genuinely believe Henderson could return this summer? I’m not having it like. His wage demands would be beyond us anyway, surely?

Depends on his motivation. He’s not on the breadline and should be fairly secure so might be willing to settle for £1m/year? Also his record should allow us to pay beyond the normal wage structure without everyone else wanting a pay rise. He wouldn’t be the first player to return to their hometown club at end of their career. I think bigger stumbling block may be length of deal we would commit to.

He gets a lot of criticism on a personal level but it seems to me that in his role he's well respected. Everyone speaks well of him and how he goes about his business, apart from a section of Sunderland fans that is.

Personally I don't have an issue with the bloke, as you say nobody hits a home run every time but he has got a lot right. We needed a big restock of quality young talent thanks to Donald being perpetually skint and selling them off for peanuts and he's overseen that as a priority, fair enough.

Now's the time to spend a bit more and significantly improve the squad, let's see what happens.

I'm not expecting Henderson to return, but if his ex teammates think he'll play for us before he retires it needs to be this coming season.

Me either but it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks if he does become available.
