Henderson coming back would turn the SoL into a very hostile environment on match days. He'd be a lightning rod and away fans would revel in it.

Whether this helps create an us versus them atmosphere that helps us thrive or suffocates the team, I'm not sure.

Think he is finished personally, not one I would be looking at, but that's why I'm not on the big bucks.

I do agree with you there. It wasn’t too long ago he got boo’d by England fans at Wembley, whilst playing for England…

Pretty widely reported our wage structure has a ceiling of 15k a week, I believe. If that's true, I wouldn't be breaking it for a 34 year old who might not have anything left in the tank other than "professionalism"

It’s a weird one with Henderson. I’m desperate for us to add some experience and he brings that in abundance and more, just the Saudi move doesn’t sit right.

Do we have a gay fan branch/club?

If so it would be interesting to hear their thoughts. I guess if they can get over it I would think everyone should be able to.

I’m not sure. There’d be a lot of negative attention if he was to sign though, no doubt about it.

I think everyone knows his motivation if they take their red and white specks off.

Don't like the idea that might use the club to launder his soiled reputation, at all.

People make mistakes. It seems really ****ing harsh to me that a good man who has done a tremendous amount of charity work throughout his life suddenly gets written off because of a single decision. What's worse is that an awful lot of people who criticise him will have given sod all back to society themselves and so revel in the "hypocrite" angle towards Hendo to make themselves feel better.

We are all human and make mistakes. In many ways it’s how we respond to those mistakes that’s more important. He didn’t commit a crime, he made an ethical misjudgement. Lots of players are still over there taking the money, he got out his contract and came back. Guy has an MBE for his charity work with NHS during Covid-19 and raised £4m out the pockets of his fellow players.
There’s no doubt he’s going to get an opportunity from some club willing to give him a chance. I’d rather it was us.

Did you not see how he responded to it? I think that's what mainly caused offence.

I think a decent part of the reason for him going to Saudi was to help Liverpool out. Save his wages and get a transfer fee in.

Regardless of his reputation now, my concern is does he have the legs to play 30 plus games in a competitive Championship? People who have seen him play more recently than me will have a better idea.

If he had just come out and said to the press the reason for the move is 700k a week. Wouldn't you!! I think people would have respected him more, rather than staying quiet. I'm over that now, it's history and I think would be a healthy addition to the squad and the younger players. I'd have him back in a heart-beat.

Behind a pay wall but I think most of it is in that article, he said some pretty stupid stuff over several interviews with the press though.

Morally he isn't my cup of tea and the last 12 months suggests he's finished at a competitive level, again just a personal opinion.

He actually suggested his presence in Saudi would help things.

While also saying he wouldn't try to change their views as it was disrespectful to their religion.

It's just cringe as ****. He acted like a ****ing weasel.

That’s a generous interpretation of his motives. Another is that he actually thought he could have some influence on how the Saudi state viewed LGBQT rights. Both could be true in part but I think it’s more likely that wage was the biggest determining factor, not like he wouldn’t have had other very good offers. He made an awful decision but not one that is beyond redemption.

I just that that welcoming Henderson back to the club would be loosely hand in hand with endorsing football clubs being taking over by Saudi Arabia.

Agreed just another greedy bastard in an industry of greedy bastards. Most players just drive past hungry kids each day to earn their millions at least this one’s put a bit back at one point.

Agree. I think he's made a serious error of judgement, and, whilst everyone can make a mistake in life, imo it's so significant that he won't carry the same respect among our young players as he would otherwise have done. Neither do I believe he'll be as valuable to us on the pitch as he would have been say a couple of years ago. That, and his age, together with what are likely to be stretching contract issues, would mean for me it's not something we should look at.
