How much time was wasted on it? It's not as if we've strung it along all window then been stung last minute with nowhere else to go, The club said they where interested which is true ( along with many champ clubs ) but the interest was dropped pretty quickly once the financial side of it became unrealistic ( as it was by most of the interested clubs ) and we've moved on.

Fair enough, felt like a fair amount of time was sunk into it even while he was here when more realistic targets could have been drawn up.

I suppose that's fair. He must have been less so at Derby or as people have said Rosenior thought he could manage it. Hindsight is wonderful now and I'm sure he's learned from it
Every coach thinks they can change a player, it is in their DNA. When I was at Doncaster RL we even went to jail to get a player called Ian Bell out of prison and sign him. I then signed him again at Featherstone. He had the potential to be a world beater, he would have won everything in the game if he was not the person he is mentally.
A quick google search now will show you where he ended up in life if you are not already familiar with his work.

I imagine LR thought he could take Malcolm from London and away from his mates, put his arm round him and make him happy by taking him to the Deep and Minerva on their days off etc etc. As we all saw he didnt want to be here from day one. He got it completely wrong, like we did with Belly. 4 tries on his debut for Fev against Leigh, asked the owner for his win pay after the game to buy his daughter a new bike then never came to training again cos he went on a huge bender!!!

I would wager Malcolm will be gone from professional football within a couple of years and playing for Dulwich Hamlet or some other type of club.

So then why did we pretend we were any chance to begin with? A huge waste of time if we seriously thought we could sign him for less than 1m and pay him 15-20k a week.
If we'd have sold a couple of players we might have had a chance of signing him or at least coming a bit closer to his terms but as it stands no-one has left yet.

Somebody like Vaughan wont want to jump too early and sign a long deal on better wages
he can wait a few years to show how good he is and run down his contract so his transfer fee would be non-existent or not too high and get a good salary in the Premier League ala Bowen.
Highly doubt it!
If (when) he's offered a longer term contract on better money I'd wager he'd bite our hands off. A player can't "wait a few years", he'll want better security and money as soon as, for various reasons, and he'd be daft to take such a risk of not wanting a longer contract on higher money (risk as in the risk of getting a bad injury). If he continues to develop as we expect, things will look after themselves for him, no problem (injury permitting).

he's just signed a new contract 3 years + 1 year club option

If these figures are anywhere near accurate, the time can't be far away when young Harry Vaughan considers taking up joinery or plumbing...

£1200 a week plus whatever other contractual bonuses there are is not bad going for an 18 year old who broke through last season.

Football and real life shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.

My point was,and still is,Harry Vaughan would be better off fitting kitchens.

'IF' he is being paid that kind of money and he's fully aware that we have players on up to 20X his salary, then it won't be long before he's looking to up stumps and go to another Club who will reward him for his effort
He probably doesn’t want to fit kitchens.
He’s currently got a decent potential, we have him under contract, if he does good again, we can offer him better terms.
The ball’s currently very much in our court, so if he goes, it’ll be because someone’s paying us a decent wedge to get him.
