You're living in fantasy land though, we don't have anyone at the club with a comprehensive knowledge of the Dutch or Belgian leagues so how are we meant to adequately recruit from there? We use the tools we have at our disposal and we have a comprehensive knowledge of the Turkish League dating back years so it's the league we should still heavily recruit from. Adama and Tufan are two of the most technically gifted players we've ever signed at this level.

Comparing us to Burnley is somewhat unfair, going off TransferMarkt, they've spent in the region of £40m on transfer fees and our existing squads were miles apart too.

I’m living in a fantasy land? That’s the pot calling the kettle black. You just said we should recruit heavily from the Turkish league and the MLS purely because our owner and vice-chairman have some background in it. Do Man City mainly recruit from UAE or Newcastle from Saudi Arabia or Cardiff from Malaysia? Get a grip.

Honestly, some of the ****e you come out with. Didn’t you say the Humber Premier League isn’t too far off from the standard of League 2 as well?

No, you're talking complete bullshit. In the last 2 years, can you guess how many players Championship clubs have signed from the Eredivisie? 3, and one of those has never played a game in the Championship. That's 4 transfer windows and 30-ish clubs and they've only signed 3 players from the Dutch league in that time. It's the clearest indication that Championship clubs don't think signing players from Holland is a good bet for the style, intensity and physicality of the Championship.

And no, I said there's not a massive difference between the National League and the bottom of L1 (as Stockport look pretty likely to prove on Saturday)

I saw that save from the South Stand. It was the best I ever saw live. He really did twist in mid-air to change direction. I think it was against Bury. I remember it more as a deflected shot than a header but it doesn't matter. The ball was going in and he shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near it. It was 0-0 at the time and we went on to win 1-0.
Yeah you're probably right about it being a shot, was a while ago now! I was also in the south stand, wish there was a video of it somewhere but more than likely it will have to be one we just remember fondly in our heads.

Only two two Turkish players were signed in the last two seasons and we signed both of them, what does that say about how highly the Turkish league is rated?

The list of Dutch players who've played in the Championship is a fairly long one (and this is just Dutch born players, not all the players who came here from the Eredivisie)...

THE WINGER MIGHT BE DE LA FUENTE... he was a deal waiting to be done in January... fax machine broke..

We were trying to sign the Konrad De La Fuente, he is a left winger aged 21 and American, who is owned by Olympique Marseille but was on loan to Greek club Olympiacos (owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis) last season in the last transfer window. The odd thing is, De La Fuente only started 3 league games for Olympiacos last season and he hasn't started a 1st team game since September 2022!!

The mention of us targeting a number 10 sounds odd to me. Traore has been brilliant there and that position is also probably Tufan's best chance of getting in the side. I know, I know, it's a squad game. But still seems strange to be targeting that position.

Scott Twine as the player they were interested in last summer and going for him again?

I think it must be, the statement follows the bit about wanting a no10 capable of flourishing as if it is in reference to that. Twine fits the bill and has been a consistent rumour over the last few weeks or so.

Unless they think Tufan can play a deeper role perhaps?

But I agree. Between Traore, Tufan and young Vaughan that position seems to be fairly well covered.

I’m sure someone somewhere last year posted Twine and his dad flew over to meet Acun and co in Turkey so wouldn’t surprise me if it was him.

Twine was keen on coming, but he had his head turned by Burnley. You’re right, Tan and Acun met his reps a couple of times, but he’s a Burnley player now and I can’t see him leaving for us.

I’ve heard a few names (which I can’t share just yet) that we are in talks with, he isn’t one of them, neither is Maxi Gomez. One of them very nearly signed for us in the January transfer window, the defender is probably the closest to being agreed.
#10 role looked at because of Traore’s fitness issues, but Traore can also play deeper as a CM (a bit like Koren could) so it’s not like he couldn’t fit in the team. Some quite exciting names mentioned, but most are “wish list names”, I think those lists may change when agents are spoken to and demands are actually put on the table. And that’s not to say we’re having another Summer of Football Tan/Acun 2023/24, but if they’re going to pay for multiple players of that quality, income will have to pour in and I don’t see that happening either, not in the time frame of a single window without a fire sale AND significant investment . Can never say never, and the ambition being shown is very impressive, but this will almost certainly be a window of “yep, very good signing that” and not “HOLY ****BALLS MY SOCKS!!!!111!!!oneeleven!!1

What's the latest on Sinik. He was one of the new signings I thought could make a real difference. The reality was he was way off the pace. I assume that as he was allowed to go out on loan he was not a player Leroy appeared to rate.
