I ruptured my Achilles’ tendon about 5 years ago playing walking football. My own fault, I was late getting there and didn’t have time for a proper warm up (it was November and cold, even though it was indoor). I’d literally been on the pitch a couple of minutes, someone played the ball to me, I pushed it out in front of me and went to push off on my right leg and bang. As I was going down, I was looking behind me to see who had kicked me. It was only as I got up that I realised what I’d done. No surprise really, as my Dad had done the same 30 years earlier playing 5 aside.
I had to wear a boot for about 4 months, couldn’t drive etc. the wife wasn’t impressed as we’d just downsized to an old cottage that needed doing up and I couldn’t do much at all.
It healed up ok but never been quite the same since.
You think that's bad...I had to have a week off work with a broken flask

Did mine on 24th May 2009 at the KC stadium, last game of the season v Man U, just after the Newcastle result came in, and just before Browny started singing.

Jumped the East stand perimeter hoarding....snap....Bernard Mendy was waiting for me to jump on him only about 10 yards away but I couldn't get to him.

Daren't tell the wife as we were going to Cyprus the next morning. Hobbled around for a week there (god knows how), then when I landed home a week later went straight to HRI for surgery, and kept in there for another week.

It's a twat of an injury and still gives me swelling problems now

Two unconnected posts. Seems some can’t work out why anyone would love it if a young man wearing the number 9 shirt his father, who died whilst the player at that club, was the last to wear.

I thought it said that at first but they retired the number 9 shirt for 9 years, 12 years ago. Though I'm sure plenty of people will love it if he scores.

Exactly what happened to me. I heard a bang and thought someone had either thrown something at the back of my leg or whacked me with a pick axe handle and I was literally just moving to receive a pass without another player within yards of me. My recovery was miraculous compared to yours, again shows what good advice I was given to aid my recovery.
Mine had completely severed just below the calf muscle, hence the boot, which kept my foot tilted at an angle to allow the tendon to regrow and re-attach. I had to go to the hospital every couple of weeks to have the boot adjusted gradually, so that the tendon grew back to its normal length otherwise I’d have spent the rest of my days walking on tip toes!

Read it that they retired the number 9 shirt 12 years ago when his dad, who wore it, died, and that his son would be the first to wear it since. Obviously, as you point out, he won’t be the first to wear it since. Most of us agree will indeed love it if he scores.
