I not writing Greaves obituary just yet, but don't we have McLoughlin?
McLoughlin is nowhere near as good as Greaves and I’d be very worried if he was to be a starting replacement as the left-sided centre-half.

Exactly he really wants him and as you say that’s why. He has a good season and if they don’t manage promotion he’s going to look really good in that system and a bigger club will come in for himWilder takes his game to another level. After watching how Basham excelled for them in the overlapping centre half role Greavesy is a dream for Wilder
That’s fair. My other concern is if he does go, where can we find a left-footed centre-half who is just as good if not better for a reasonable fee who will adjust quickly to the demands of the Championship? Unlike KLP, it would be far riskier to try and replace Greaves with a unknown talent from abroad imo. Tricky wingers are a dime a dozen but a left-footed centre-half who is composed and comfortable at this level is far more rare and more difficult to sign.

You’re in a minority of one on thatI'd rather have Greaves for his ball carrying attributes, but I have no worries over McLoughlin starting. There would also have to be a replacement as we'd be extremely thin numbers wise.

Agreed. He knows we have the money but aren't offering it, he knows his place in the team (he's vice captain after all), and if we aren't offering it to him then he'll be off and Boro would be paying him a lot more.
How do you know we aren't offering him it and how do you know Boro would be paying him a lot more?
Just because we now have more money, doesn't mean we should be held to ransom by players/agents ( not saying we are btw )
Name me one club in the world that pays all players at the same level/amount. There is always going to be levels within squads.
You’re in a minority of one on that
Proved he could defend at this level last year. Of course I'd rather Greaves stayed as he has more strings to his bow.

Why don’t you think it is that
It’s the same reason honeyman left
new players coming in on 20 grand a week
You’re best players would want parity
They don’t they’ll be off
I’d do the same and he'd be moving to an excellent tho bit of a **** of a manager at boro who really knows what system he likes to play and utilises his centre backs well in that system
It’s a very good move for greavesy
Didn't you just say the club aren't matching his demands?
Who said that all players should be paid the same? I certainly didn't.
If he does go, I would say Mccoughlin’s deserves a chance to play in his favoured position. His good form last season was actually in a position he was unfamiliar with. Would need to strength the squad, but I do feel we need some continuity in the first XI. It may be that we lose too much in terms of distribution, but at least give home a chance in his favoured position. By the comments on the MDT, he had a nightmare last night ( or some on here just don’t like him) so fully expect to be shot down. That’s fair. He looked calamitous against Bradford, he is a very big downgrade on Greaves.
So you don't know we aren't offering it ( whatever it is ) and you don't know boro will be paying him a lot more.....
No we aren't ATM giving in to his demands as you put it, but why should the club just give in to demands from any player?
If you went into work for a pay review for example, would you employer just give in to whatever you demand from them?
Whilst most of the fans who have actually been to the game are still exiting the stadium.Let's see at 5pm on Saturday. Humberside will be full of callers squealing like buttered pigs.
