I guess but 10 in 44 isn’t that much better than Eaves’ 5 in 31 in the season just gone. You also have to wonder why he wasn’t kept on by Rotherham now they’ve been promoted.
It wasn’t Rotherham’s choice. He’s rejected a new deal. That profile of striker needed replacing IMO, we still need that outlet and for a free transfer if it’s true I don’t think there is many better out there available for nowt

Also worth remembering that according to Kessler, we would have triggered Eaves ' option if he was happy to remain as a squad player but he wants to play at this stage of his career.

Obvs to some it would be' ridiculous' that a player wouldn't back himself against the new signings coming in on more money with a view to be first choices, but that's what the vice chair said when Eaves left. Similar to Smallwood.

There's more to a player than just goals though. Mental that this has to be said. Eaves' goal record was his biggest strength, his contribution in general play was a huge weakness. I don't know anything about Smith but it's perfectly plausible that he's a much better player than Eaves is but with a similar goal record.

Maybe but if so, Smith would’ve been playing the majority of his career in the Championship, not League 1 or 2. There are better options even on free transfers.

That’s true. I’d opt for McGoldrick as a short term striker signing over Smith as his bert attribute is his link up play and hold up.
