Maybe I've become a bit cynical but considering his background, I find it hard to believe that finances weren't imperative to the whole operation, that isn't to say he hasn't been swept up in it all though.

I don't trust billionaires to act in anyone's best interest but their own, don't get me wrong. But money is just half of it. My understanding is fame and glory is still pretty desirable.

Funny isn't it? How some people are motivated, imagine having the warm embrace of a whole people, them having your back for the rest of their lives - they'll tell their grandkids about you, when he was sipping that beer and the camera went on him and the crowd erupted, that has to be worth millions that. Love just pouring out onto the pitch at you. These people don't realise they can't take that money with them when alls said and done.

Cynicism is justified in general in football and I’m sure finance was important in KLD’s interest in SAFC. I would contest though that it was potential driven more than anything else.
Not just financial but also personal achievement and legacy. The Dreyfus family involvement in Olympic Marseille spanned two decades of growth and development. I personally believe that KLD will be here for several more years, though possibly less ‘hands on’ as time and his portfolio expands.
The future is very bright in red and white!

I think every Sunderland supporter has the right to be cynical after what we have been through, even in my 45 years, however, we are for the first time ever in my lifetime, a well-run and organised club, which can only go from strength to strength, the foundations laid by KLD and his astute business acumen is second to none, his family move in circles way above anything we have ever seen or known, I for one am so relaxed about next season in the PL and in Europe (not cocky or deluded) but the future I see for SAFC is incredible, yes we will have a few bumps in the road but i just love to see where we are right now, HAWAY HAWAY HAWAY

Fair comment, it would feel like pulling the rug if he sold and left this summer.
All I’m saying is that we should be prepared to accept he may sell the club, this may be the optimum time for him. We currently sit seventh in the PL, which is fantastic, but the stage above that is different and requires a greater financial structure.

There’s that old proverb about ‘going out on a high’ and this might be it for KLD.

Next season could be an anticlimax with a poor PL finish and a disappointing European campaign. Football supporters don’t take much to turn and he may not want the personal risk of having to spend next season when the financial situation may be different.

I’ll just do as I always do and enjoy everything to the max.

I think it all depends on what KLD thought we could achieve when he bought the club. It's highly likely we're way ahead of his expectations, and he has embraced our potential. Also,he'll know that progress is rarely a linnear, consistent upward move. There will be a set-back or two along the way, even though the momentum remains.

Absolutely. If we can’t compete financially at the next level then unfortunately selling is the right thing to do. I’d love him to stay but if he was to sell I don’t think anyone could have any hard feelings, he’s propelled our football club to a stage that none of us thought was imaginable 5 years ago.

At the time of his contract discussions I DMd someone, explained the situation and exactly what the outcome would be.
This person confirmed that I gave him the information long before details were released about him leaving.
So nothing to do with hindsight, just the one and only bit of information I have ever had, and probably will ever have.
Did they say he was 100% crocked and were being mendacious in selling him to southampton?

I don’t get where the idea they can’t finance the club comes from.

These people are multi billionaires and the club is self funding right now.

It’s a non topic that. The topic is if they WANT to go all in.
Nail on head! And,having seen our potential at first hand last season....why wouldn't they?
