some lad on twitter convinced it's origi....can't imagine we could afford the wages of someone like that tbh
Back to the New Goalkeeper - Sorry
de Gea is the only one that I can get to fit the logic of bringing in a 3rd keeper, now.
- 33 years old (Prime years to come?)
- 5 million or less to buy?
- Big statement - "we mean business"......
Origi one of them that looks “serious” on paper. But id seriously question his motivation for playing if he dropped to us
Something I'd forgotten until just now is that Baz has said a few times that Walter wants a fast striker in the mold of Ollie Watkins. His name has been mentioned a few times as an example of the style he wants. So presumably the striker we're still after will be that one? Unless Burstow is considered to be that type?
I would think that's Burstow?
Never mind then! He looked taller than I expected the other day, and he occupied the box better than a "he runs a lot" type of striker usually does, perhaps a specific Walter instruction. It made me think of him more as a target man type but I haven't seen enough to know either way.
One of things I picked up on from Baz on his podcast was that he said we’re trying to sign this mystery third keeper because he became available and we couldn’t pass up the chance to sign him.
It all just seems like a little kid who natters his mum for a toy, she gets him it and then five minutes later they pass another shop and he sees something better and he natters for that as well. I think we have two very highly-rated keepers in Pandur and Racioppi and now neither will get much of a sniff as this new guy sounds like he’s coming in as a nailed-on starter. If nothing else, it shows a serious lack of faith in two decent keepers that we’ve signed only in the last eight months.

As Chelsea were taken over at a similar time as us, I haven't been able to resist drawing parallels between the way the two clubs have been run. Chelsea signed KDH at the start of the window and they've already basically rendered him redundant within the same window with Felix signing along with others. Similar here with Pandur signing 8 months ago already being made redundant. Omur signed 8 months ago, is he Best XI now? If neither of those two make our XI, then not a single player signed in the previous two windows is in our best XI, which is just terrible business, putting aside the Philogene fee.
I think Brighton are a good example of a club getting it right regarding keepers. They have Verbruggen and Steele competing for the starting spot and then they have keepers they send out on loan like Rushworth and Scherpen plus any under-21 keepers. No club needs three first-team keepers competing for the same spot at any given time, especially one that is already out of one cup competition. Man City have Ederson, Ortega and Carson (who never plays and is quite happy to never play).
We just seem to sign players if they’re available and if we can and not if we need them. It’s why last season we ended up playing [HASHTAG]#10s[/HASHTAG] on each wing for large parts. We required a huge squad rebuild this summer but the keeper and centre-half situation, in my opinion, has been sorted already and signing a third keeper and Cooper just seems pointless.
