Lokilo was a poor man’s Grealish under Guaridola at Championship level. Didn’t try to beat a man, didn’t cross, didn’t make runs in behind. All he did was receive the ball, turn inside and play a simple pass backwards or sidewards. Whether that was Rosenior’s coaching or if he just lacks confidence and ability I don’t know.

Sick to death of these ‘ball-retention’ wingers in today’s game. What happened to Grealish is like watching an angel fall and Bernardo Silva on the opposite side is just ugly to watch. One of the reasons I like Vini Jr. so much is because he’s a pure winger who loves to take a man on or make those runs in behind. The way some of these modern wingers dribble is horrendous. Football is as much about entertainment and aesthetics as it is about results. Brazil’s reputation as a great footballing nation isn’t just about the 5 World Cups but how they won them in style with flair.
Overcoaching is killing the spectator side of the game. Fans are just cast aside by the football messiah’s who coach sides these days, all doing their best to replicate Pep Guardiola who stands alone with an unlimited cheque book.

Pep’s two biggest challengers haven’t played the same style as him.

I’ll not forget the way Rosenior would talk down to fans this season who questioned things that happened during games.

Judging by Acuns comments I suspect similar happened in their meetings.

To be fair when some of our fans are comparing Harry Vaughan to George best I can get the disdain

in all seriousness I know there were a lot of valid criticisms of the style of play but I don’t recall him ever challenging anyone directly but as others have stated it’s the sword he’s fallen on when these conversations with Acun have come up

This is the ironic thing, everyone is trying to be a mini Pep, including Chelsea’s new manager. However the only real people to challenge Pep is Klopp, who plays entirely different style.

Like you say too much is made by styles now, including Rosenior. Sometimes I feel like managers are trying to dictate the way the game goes through how the opposition set up. I think this best sums up Philogene, started so well, then through injury and potentially been overcoached he became a shell of his former self. There was a possibility of his head been turned as well.

I do have a theory Rosie didn’t mind Lokilo has he rarely gave the ball away.

When did he talk down to people? I thought he was always quite measured in his responses when, let's be honest, a lot of people think the pinnacle of football is hoofing the ball up field for a knock down.

Don’t disagree with what you’re saying was more when he was saying things like, “anyone who doesn’t think we didn’t dominate that game can come talk to me” those types of things

Too many coaches across all levels are trying to replicate Guardiola’s rigid positionism and it’s making the sport less interesting as a whole. I’m excited about Walter because he seems to mix aspects of positionism and relationism to his football i.e. have a system and philosophy to adhere to like possession-based football and build-up from the back but gives the players a lot of individual freedom and responsibility to make the correct decisions during passages of play.

A name I mentioned as a potential Greaves replacement, José Córdoba, is set to join Norwich from Levski Sofia.

Lokilo was ok until he had to cross it and he just couldn’t use his other foot , what amazed me was how he’d got that far without someone coaching him as the benefit for him , also why did we buy him with that limitation?
He also was a great help in getting Vizela relegated.

It's why players like Eze, Olise and Zaha do/did so well at Palace. Direct wingers are an asset in the modern game because they defy the constant possession based games that many teams now try to play.

Jaden is of a similar mould, though it's also fair to say that confidence plays a huge part in these players and the old "give em a kick and they'll soon slow down" adage seems to impact them quite a lot.

On the other hand. Does Bowen work better in a more rigid team? Eze is one of the most talented players I’ve seen in the Championship.

You know who else is:emoticon-0105-wink:

Bowen is a clinical counter attacking forward, hence why Klopp loved him so much. Don’t see him being as effective in a possession heavy side. He needs a few touches, Eze can have as many as he wants

Odense have been relegated from the Danish top flight. Reason this might be of interest is because one of their better players Sven Köhler, who joined last summer, was also linked to Hamburg under Walter that same summer. Apparently he has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave on a free transfer in the event Odense were relegated.

Yeah I saw they’d gone down, that’s a real shame for their fans. Odense BK are a pretty big club in Denmark. They had Bashkim Kadrii up front as well, shouldn’t have gone down.

It’s like AaB last season, they shouldn’t have gone down either.

Seen as you watch a fair amount of European football is there anyone from Oostende worth poaching given their predicament

That's what made George Best so great. He just accepted such tackles, got up and made those who hacked him look like fools.
