Overcoaching is killing the spectator side of the game. Fans are just cast aside by the football messiah’s who coach sides these days, all doing their best to replicate Pep Guardiola who stands alone with an unlimited cheque book. Pep’s two biggest challengers haven’t played the same style as him. I’ll not forget the way Rosenior would talk down to fans this season who questioned things that happened during games.
To be fair when some of our fans are comparing Harry Vaughan to George best I can get the disdain in all seriousness I know there were a lot of valid criticisms of the style of play but I don’t recall him ever challenging anyone directly but as others have stated it’s the sword he’s fallen on when these conversations with Acun have come up
This is the ironic thing, everyone is trying to be a mini Pep, including Chelsea’s new manager. However the only real people to challenge Pep is Klopp, who plays entirely different style. Like you say too much is made by styles now, including Rosenior. Sometimes I feel like managers are trying to dictate the way the game goes through how the opposition set up. I think this best sums up Philogene, started so well, then through injury and potentially been overcoached he became a shell of his former self. There was a possibility of his head been turned as well. I do have a theory Rosie didn’t mind Lokilo has he rarely gave the ball away.
When did he talk down to people? I thought he was always quite measured in his responses when, let's be honest, a lot of people think the pinnacle of football is hoofing the ball up field for a knock down.
Don’t disagree with what you’re saying was more when he was saying things like, “anyone who doesn’t think we didn’t dominate that game can come talk to me” those types of things
Too many coaches across all levels are trying to replicate Guardiola’s rigid positionism and it’s making the sport less interesting as a whole. I’m excited about Walter because he seems to mix aspects of positionism and relationism to his football i.e. have a system and philosophy to adhere to like possession-based football and build-up from the back but gives the players a lot of individual freedom and responsibility to make the correct decisions during passages of play.
And as I said, wasn't Simms the top scorer when Jarvis was there and playing? If you tell me where your stats come from I can look it up.
A name I mentioned as a potential Greaves replacement, José Córdoba, is set to join Norwich from Levski Sofia.
It's why players like Eze, Olise and Zaha do/did so well at Palace. Direct wingers are an asset in the modern game because they defy the constant possession based games that many teams now try to play. Jaden is of a similar mould, though it's also fair to say that confidence plays a huge part in these players and the old "give em a kick and they'll soon slow down" adage seems to impact them quite a lot.
I know it's a small club, but do you have any idea what their fans made of him? I mean I can guess...
On the other hand. Does Bowen work better in a more rigid team? Eze is one of the most talented players I’ve seen in the Championship.
Bowen is a clinical counter attacking forward, hence why Klopp loved him so much. Don’t see him being as effective in a possession heavy side. He needs a few touches, Eze can have as many as he wants
Odense have been relegated from the Danish top flight. Reason this might be of interest is because one of their better players Sven Köhler, who joined last summer, was also linked to Hamburg under Walter that same summer. Apparently he has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave on a free transfer in the event Odense were relegated.
Yeah I saw they’d gone down, that’s a real shame for their fans. Odense BK are a pretty big club in Denmark. They had Bashkim Kadrii up front as well, shouldn’t have gone down. It’s like AaB last season, they shouldn’t have gone down either.
Seen as you watch a fair amount of European football is there anyone from Oostende worth poaching given their predicament
Well when someone arrives in January the overall expectation is that he must be better then the others but he wasn't.
That's what made George Best so great. He just accepted such tackles, got up and made those who hacked him look like fools.
