My prediction on Jan, for what it's worth.

We've all had jobs (for this is a job to these guys) where you just get sick of it. Not because anything's changed particularly, you've just had enough. That's our Jan. Until a season or so ago I felt he was a good, solid defender, good enough for our level. But he's lost his mojo. He's not moaned or thrown his toys out of the pram but he's had enough. I don't want him to stay because once you've reached that point you just don't want to be where you are.

So my prediction? Notwithstanding the Villa fan comments on Twitter, he'll go there and do a good, steady bottom half of the Prem job for them with an uplift from the new scenery and new people around him. Just like we all do when we change jobs.

I've always liked him, I always felt he did a decent job for us and I wish him well.

Yep, he's served us well and doesn't deserve any scorn from Saints fans in my opinion.

I feel that there is a strange lack of chemistry and communication when he plays alongside Mo and it's better that they are parted now.

Totally agree with this sentiment.

Just an absolutely beige player for us the last year or two and needs to go if his heart isn’t in it.
I am torn between thinking he will kick on somewhere else and thinking he’s peaked already. Will be interesting to watch his career from here

Exactly this. Which is also why clubs want a ‘try before you buy’ deal. To see if he can regain that mojo with them, or whether he’s a busted flush (at least in the PL). Totally understandable.

It isn't totally unreasonable to assume Jan could have a really excellent season with Villa. At one point for us he was really good, and if you put him in a more rigid system he could do very well.

Is Gerrard’s system more rigid? I don’t watch them enough

Leicester may come in for Bednarek with Fofana now off?

In other news, we’ve not been linked with a LB yet but wonder if an opportunity might come up next week:
