I really don't see why we'd agree to loan him to a PL rival without it TBH. Unless we just want his wages off the books.
Our Canadian international Jonathan David has started well this season. 3 games played, 2 goals, 2 assists. Come on Saints if we want to spend big, he's so worth it!
10 out of 10! Just knew you’d get it SA! (1st) Hats off to you others! The youngsters will be be thinking wtf!
And……….that may or may not have been the case but Everton are ****,Brighton ain’t,Brightons recruitment is far better,Everton’s is woeful,Brighton are very progressive Everton hopefully will go down, and let’s face it the managers are not even on the same level. Being told to leave doesn’t always mean you have to,but leaving for Everton is a real **** move.
I feel like this has come up repeatedly over the last few years with Hoedt etc. but, in the absence of bids for full a full transfer, loans aren’t unreasonable. We save most of his salary for a year, get a fee and possibly sell him at the end of it. If the alternative is we have a very highly paid squad CB on payroll that we’re not particularly keen on, then it could stop us signing one that we really do want. It’s kicking the van down the road, sure, but it’s not like there’s a ravenous market for Jan Bednarek, the defender we all agree needs a fresh start elsewhere! By all accounts those squad players we want to move haven’t attracted bids so far. We can’t make other teams buy them. It’s going to be hard to sell them because they are paid well and haven’t played well. We’re in the last week now so it’s time to just clear the decks as effectively as possible. Loans, salary top ups, mutual terminations are all going to be options to clear the likes of Redmond, Bednarek, Stephens, Ely etc. We will take a haircut in all of those but it’s a matter of negotiations to reduce the impact they have on the club’s finances. I’m sure we will have enough financial manoeuvrability to make necessary replacements.
I think people are getting flustered because there have been a few rumours buzzing around that after our initial flurry of signings we are now in “sell to buy” mode just like the past several years. I guess this has come from the big delay since our last signing - which wouldn’t have been such a big delay if city had sold Delap rather than be firmly set on a championship loan It’s just like how if we don’t bring a striker in people will insist it is because we were relying on the sale of Adams for the funds where there is no indication that is true. It might just be that our options haven’t worked out in this video for various reasons. I read something about how when arsenal failed to sign Vlahovic they were offered half a dozen strikers of varying degrees (i can’t exactly remember who). But they decided they wanted Jesus and waited. Now you can argue that it is far more of a gamble for us to wait as it could risk relegation and this is fair. Arsenal might have got champions league if they had upgraded in the short term. Not as big a difference but still pretty important
I don’t know the details, but not sure he was pushing for a move as much as Brighton realised he is pretty bang average.
And he still apparently had three clubs in for him. I’ve seen people uneasy about how apparently Villa, West Ham and Leicester are interested in Bednarek. As if that means us wanting to move him on must be a mistake
He’s an experienced PL defender, and he needs a move. He’s good on his day, but those days aren’t at Southampton any longer. It’s no surprise to me that clubs are in for him. It’s only a shame they’re aren’t *more* in for him!
Good luck to Brighton then. If we can get 4 points off them this season, I'll wish them all the best.
