Should have made it with a limit on sales too. Wouldn't have been hard to draft a rule relating to that.
I don't think the FA can do that themselves. The transfer window rules are made by FIFA and they're all about when clubs can register new players. There's no mention of player sales.

I think everyone thought it was okay to sell Che if the offer was very good and we sign a top replacement - same is true here.

Plus Stu is 30 now and injuries keep mounting up - it doesn't matter how good he is if he isn't fit. Che is yet to peak so it makes more sense to move Stu on than Che.

I think we will struggle to see much improvement (if any) if we sell our best player in any given position. Stu is our only proven PL quality '10'. Hopefully Aribo will prove to be so too but we don't know for sure yet. We are no longer in a position where we need to sell to buy and doing so to fill out our squad has only resulted in the decrease in quality over the barren Gao years. What we need to do, and I appreciate it's not easy (though there should be a market for a Redmond and Ely), is move on those players that aren't good enough for us and try and add further quality. If we get rid of our only proven quality 10, theres no guarentee the replacement will live up to their billing and even if they did thats replacing good with better (if it works out). That is not going to make much of a difference to our overall quality when all the rest aren't good enough to make an impact. We improve by replacing not good enough with better and rotating with Stu when he's injured, off form or whatever, particularly with 5 subs now. I'm confident that Aribo will be a good addition, but even so I'd want Stu, Aribo + a new 10 to imrove us. Not just Aribo + a new 10 and the rest not good enough.

Yeah I know it's registration based but I didn't think it would prevent the PL passing a rule of its own.

Hmm Stu Armstrong has been one of our top performers over the past 4 years but last season he wasn't great, mainly due to his injuries. Last summer the idea of selling him would have been unthinkable but he hasnt been his best for a while now.
Still the best ball carrier in the team, and is so important in our transitions. Don't believe for one minute we will sell him.

The 'either or' statement is rather like Sky saying that Saints will sign Neymar or 'Someone Else'. When we buy 'Someone Else', Sky will trumpet their source as being on the money/in the know about Neymar.
We may sell Stuart Armstrong or 'Someone Else'. So when we sell someone else, Sky can chalk up another success in their 'finger in the air' guesses.

^ for that reason and more the window should shut before the first game of the season.

I find it baffling that the FA/PL think this is a good system. Squads should be ready to go

The FA/PL doesn't think it's a good system, which is why it was (briefly) changed a couple years ago. The problem was that having the English transfer window out of sync with that in Europe caused no end of problems, and consequently it was reverted after a single season.

Yeah, sell both by end of this season preferably but I’m sure we’ll consider any remotely good offers for any of our number 10s. Stu is great, yes, Stu has been important in the past. Stu also has fitness and availability issues. It would take some level of confidence from the recruitment team in their ability to replace him, but yeah I think it’s okay. Not to mention he’s at the tail end of his career and absolutely deserves a stupid pay rise from the likes of…say…Leicester? Mo is perfectly cromulent number 10 for the likes of a yo-yo club or SPL team. He was fine for us last year but I’m hopeful he finds a club to take him from us.

Yeah, actually Armstrong has a massive whiff of Leicester trying to spend the Fofana money on and getting done for a surprisingly massive fee and salary. It would complete the “rule of three” anyway!

I was just thinking about that season the other day. That was so weird. The window closed here and then there were all sorts of rumours of lowball offers coming in from Bayern and Real for huge PL players. The clubs were ****ed because they absolutely could not replace any players, there were a few deals made with mandatory buyout clauses too so clubs couldn’t say no and it was generally grossly unfair.

Our season and transfer window dates sometimes have adverse effects on other leagues around the world that run different dates. It probably should be moved a little earlier but it has to be a consensus around the major leagues and making that agreement is where the difficulty will always be.

Don't think Study will go yet. At his best he is our most important player since Rickie/Sadio - take your pick. However, his best was about six games last season. We do need to shift some number 10's and he is the most marketable and his value in £ and contribution will decline quickly, but he is a bit of a guilty pleasure

Everton signing Maupay, which is….

….not going to solve their issues
They want to improve their squad depth at striker. I'd expect he would move to the bench once DCL is fit? And if that is the case he seemed like he was available for a reasonable price - unlike many other strikers. I wonder if it is him or Diaz? Or both

Rasmus Hojlund moving to Atalanta for 15-17m Euros. Based on the little I read since we were loosely linked with him a couple of days ago I am actually quite disappointed about this. He arguably seemed a better fit than Goncalo Ramos (who I still don't think we will sign)
