Probably bollocks

Pete O'Rouke is really reliable when he knows of a deal in question e.g. Josh Emmanuel to us, he broke that but stories like this just look like agent talk.

Seems a decent player though, won young player of the year at Cheltenham ahead of Greaves and Sheaf. He's on a free though, but if he's today's signing, I'd still be very happy.

Normally a good sign if a number of clubs are after him, let's see what happens

'He's a Sheffield boy and a United fan' - spotlight on Sheffield United youngster Regan Slater
By Nathan Hemmingham 09:37, 26 AUG 2020

The 20-year-old midfielder started yesterday's friendly against Dundee United

Chris Wilder was impressed by Regan Slater's performance at right wing back yesterday and says 'you know what you are getting every time he pulls on the shirt'.

The 20-year-old deputised for George Baldock in the friendly against Dundee United that was abandoned at half-time and caught the eye with a very good first half display.

A midfielder by trade, Slater is United's youngest goalscorer after finding the net against Grimsby Town in a 4-2 victory in the EFL Trophy in 2016 aged 17.

He has enjoyed loan spells at Carlisle United and Scunthorpe United and Wilder described his crunching tackle on Ipswich's Bersant Celina as the 'highlight of the year' when he played in the FA Cup match at Portman Road in 2018, coming on at half-time for Nathan Thomas.

With Baldock one of the six players who had not travelled up in time for the match yesterday and with no cover right wing back following the release of Kieron Freeman, Wilder and his coaching staff have spent time with Slater on the training pitch before yesterday's match.

And he did not look out of place.

He showed great awareness on the ball when he sent a nice pass down the right channel that released Billy Sharp, who scampered away and attacked the area.

He also delivered an excellent cross from the right that was perfect for Sharp, but the striker's header went wide.

Not only does he have good technical ability, but Wilder will have been happy with his defensive side, too.

There was one occasion up against Adam King when it looked like the winger had got the better of him against the byline, but Slater not only recovered well to get the tackle in but he also came away with the ball, showing great composure.

With only one right wing back on the books for the time being after seeing his attempts to bring in Matty Cash thwarted by Forest's asking price, Wilder hinted yesterday that the role is up for grabs.
