Not sure I see that. Think we need the squad depth.

We play 3 centre-mids so you'd expect the first-team squad to carry 6.

Understand that, but Batty's best position is the deeper midfielder. Smallwood is first choice, Alfie is backup and now there's Slater who's played a lot there too.

How does he get minutes? I think if you rate Batty, you don't bring in Slater.

We're still short of a Honeyman/Docherty replacement though

Barkley joins Villa on loan from Chelsea.

Big step down for a player touted as the next big thing. You know who else was a massive flop signing for Chelsea? Drinkwater. Cost them £35 million and he's played 12 league games for them in 3 years and two poor loans at Burnley and Villa. His career's gone to **** after leaving Leicester.

That's entirely down to him, Chelsea shipped him out after he got nicked for drink driving, Burnley shipped him out after he got injured in a fight in a night club and Villa shipped him out after he allegedly tried to headbutt Jota in training.

All normal behaviours in Leicester, so it went unnoticed before he left.

Hull City are delighted to announce that midfielder Regan Slater has joined the Club on a season-long loan from Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old bolsters Head Coach Grant McCann’s midfield options and becomes the Tigers’ tenth summer recruit.

Gleadless-born Slater progressed through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane and became the Blades' youngest-ever scorer when netting on his senior debut against Grimsby in the EFL Trophy in 2016.

He has spent the last two seasons out on loan in League Two, making 41 appearances for Carlisle in 2018/19 and 15 at Scunthorpe last term.

“Regan’s someone we’ve been monitoring for quite a while,” said McCann.

“He’s a really good player, really sharp in his movements, really energetic, calm on the ball and has really good legs in terms of running away from people.

“He’s had two very good loans at Scunthorpe and Carlisle, where he racked up over 40 appearances. He’s ready for the next step.

“He was with Sheffield United’s first team all pre-season, and played in their pre-season games. He’s thought of highly there so we’re pleased to get him. He’s a good kid, got a good attitude and is a really good character.

“Our midfielders have done well but to bring another one in helps us and Regan will come in and push them all the way.”

Oh, of course, his own behaviour and actions are to blame for his spiralling career, I agree. I'm just noticing a pattern that Chelsea spend insane amounts of money on flops and duds. Kepa being the standout example at the moment.

Terry stated after Northampton that we were signing a premier league player on season long loan plus had the option to sign him permanently after the loan. No mention of the potential to sign permanently now so do we assume that's not materialised?

Edit: 3:25 into the clip will make @sircheshireben well happy to hear :D

I’d decided he was a **** when he declared, whilst sat in City gear, that he’s a big Sheff Utd fan. They all are, no further discussion needed on that point. He redeemed himself slightly towards the end.

He’s a ****, but for the next 8 months he’s our ****.

At least he's honest, unlike Liam Cooper.

It sounds like he should pay more attention to his name.
