It seems Adelekun is a good signing, though remembering listening to report on Scunny games when driving home from watching City and he was either brilliant or went missing in games.

However, he was young so maybe he has matured and a more consistent player now. Certainly an exciting player, so looking forward to seeing him play.

That's way too simplistic a way to view it. To effectively play, 442 you need 2 wide midfielders who put a proper shift in defensively. E.g Burnley and our 08 promotion-winning side. We don't have that. Play 442 with our squad and it becomes a 424. Wilks is great, but awful at tracking back. The wide players realistically have to play deeper which nullifies them to a degree. It also completely messes up the midfield. We've got it working great with those 3 in there, Batty is a fine deputy for Richie too. Dropping any of those would be completely harsh. Our squad is set up and has been recruited to play 433 and while it may benefit 2 average forwards, it certainly doesn't benefit the team.

It's miles more beneficial to play a fluid 3 up there and it's working great.

Nah.

Don't know if it's been said, but Adelekun has a recall clause for January.

It's not much of an issue, 90% of season-long loans have one in. His contract is up at the end of the year, although they have the option of another year. I'd be surprised if there's not an option to buy in there too

Nobody apart from OLM ever said we were signing a striker, Grant said we wanted another winger and he's got one

He keeps saying a 'forward' signing, which many of us might assume is a striker, but it seems that McCann's obsessed with just signing wingers.

Adelakun is another one who can apparently play 'anywhere across the front three', despite always having been a winger.

Ironically, Wilks looks our best striker at the moment and it's taken nine months to see him play down the middle, despite him being the one winger we've signed who has regularly played as a striker in the past.

Guess who was the first manager to use Wilks as a winger? <laugh><laugh>

I’m going to get slated here for been negative.....which is normal for me these days but.....
I look at these signings and just feel so underwhelmed, we have a squad of l1 players. I know we are l1 but I think if we go up the squad has peaked.

last time we was l1 we had a squad that was full of promise and looked a decent side that could progress. I don’t see it it now

please feel free to change my mind

Not expecting any sales and don't want to loose any but some might have to go out to get game time.

Google it. HDM reporting his presser.
Expect anything to happen. Its now a serious question of economics at the club. Possibly another six months with no gate money or any revenue from a home game. Also fans are cancelling their memberships, which is understandable.
Who signs the pay cheques and pays all the running costs during this time ?
Don't see a queue of eager buyers out there wanting to take this little lot on.
No-one has got a bottomless pit of money.
Shall we form a crowdfunding page on here to help our club out during these troubled times ?

The thing is Geo any team what ends up going up must be decent because it won't be easy. Normally once you go up, players leave and you strengthen again. Last time we did it we had a very good squad. This time no big signings like Barmby but in this day and age adding players is something some clubs might not even do. If we don't go up then we are haven't strengthened well enough but if we do more signings and momentum can go a long way, only time will tell. I personally think we will be competing but am not overly confident. It's just nice after last season to see some wins.

I think there’s been a reasonable job on recruitment. Some of the players brought in you hope can grow with the team. If the players are good enough to get out of league one, then what’s to say they won’t do a Sheff United and fire us into the top spots of the championship?

I don’t see your comment as negative at all. I think we have signed players who are in the main League 1 standard. We have a L1 standard manager and assistant. That said the players assembled have a job to do. Their job is to get us out of this league. Some have promise and will make half decent championship players in time. If promoted we would need to make some more signings to compete in the championship. We know that from last year. However I am quite optimistic our squad has the quality to get promoted from this league. I do not think that the management team is a good one and McCann has some way to go before I would change my mind in him. I don’t see anything in him that inspires confidence to motivate and organise especially in changing a system when things are going wrong. One step at a time Geo., lets get out of L1 before we worry about the Championship again.

A question for anyone who's seen him a bit.

It's been said that Smallwood might be the new Ashbee or Meyler. Is there any sign that he might be that?

They're ****ing big boots to fill.

We needed another winger, Grant had said we were after another winger too. I don't doubt that we were after Tyler Walker at the start of the window but he went elsewhere and there's not much left. Unless you're going for obscure signings which are a complete punt. But we've had this discussion before...

I don't think you can take the piss out of Grant using Wilks as a winger, he got 14 goals there and 8 assists, and he'd done **** all in previous loan spells in L2 playing more central. He also had Marquis playing central who was banging them in
