I think if Jones is a permanent, then yes, we would no longer need Rathbone. Presumably we were priced out of the move. For a player from Rochdale.

Don't blame Da Silva for wanting to be away. He's got potential but he observed the rest of the team give up towards the end of last season and then so did he. The new season has all the signs of starting the way the last one finished. What has happened in the meantime to change GM from a totally incompetent loser into a 'winner'? Other than spouting the same old guff, the answer is NOTHING. GM would put a positive spin on having a dose of Covid.

Hull City boss Grant McCann has admitted that his club are close to completing a transfer for a defender, but refused to confirm whether it was Southampton centre-back Alfie Jones.
Jones spent last season on loan at Gillingham, having spent the previous season with St Mirren
While he admits the club are close to sealing a permanent transfer with a medical already done, he refused to reveal the full identity of the player without a complete confirmation of the deal.
However, he did note that the player had been on loan from Southampton with clubs in both England and Scotland.
"I can't give you a name because it hasn't gone through yet but we're hopeful it goes through today and he will give us good strength in depth," McCann told HullLive.
It will be a permanent deal. He's coming from a Premier League club, he's had two very good loans already, one in Scotland and one in England out of Southampton. He brings good wealth of experience of two different leagues as well.
The 23-year-old can play either as a centre-back or midfielder, and Grant insists that he is hopeful of completing a deal to sign him.
