I would also be delighted if Ricky stays, I know he has it in him.

As for Snoddy, I've said plenty of times that I want us to keep hold of him but I would snap Hull's hand off for £8million. That's two good standard Championship players plus a year's wages for each.

I'm another one who hopes RVW stays and proves everyone wrong, I just think it's taking him longer to settle in but I think (hope) he will come good.

We have a better chance of promotion with Snodgrass, but if we got £6m - £8m for a player who is out of contract in 12 months, then you can't say no to that.

Personally I think we have more chance of promotion with ~£7m than Snodgrass. That's two top end championship players. We've already brought a 20 goal a season striker for £3m. Remember we already have a good squad for this league we can use the money to increase our depth and plug a few holes.

I so agree with you there, Bath. Yes, you get fantastic work ethic, lots of tracking back when (often) required, but in terms of pace, or 'wizardry' on the ball - no chance. If he could show an odd burst of pace and cross from the right with his right, ffs, then he'd be an asset to keep hold of.

At £6-8m, I'd say he's much more of an asset to cash in on.

If we can keep hold of players like Tettey, Howson, Fer, Hooper then I'm still confident of a good season. But I do still feel Snodgrass will be a big loss, but like you say with 7 million we can afford to bring in a replacement.

Of the list of players I would have wanted to keep Hooper, Howson, Olsson, Fer, Redmond, Ruddy, Snodgrass. Snoddy is by far the one I'm least concerned to loose.

Seems like Palermo cant wait to get shut of Lafferty. Terrible attitude by all accounts :-/ Has the President spoken too soon or is the deal done? Surely if nothings been signed, McNally would shut the deal down ASAP? Though surely the Palermo chap wouldnt have said anything unless the deal is done?

Either way, it doesn't look good :-/

Apparently there have been a lot of Palermo fans reacting negatively to Lafferty leaving. This could just be the owner's way of justifying his decision to sell. Seems very strange otherwise.

Sad to see snodgrass go, but 7 million rising to 8 million is a great figure for a player with one year left on contract.

Will we miss him? Well I guess with the performances he put in during the second half of the season I guess so.

I think the figure being quoted is excellent and let's just hope it is wisely reinvested.

My take is still that Snoddy was a good player who performed fairly well in a very disfunctional attack. Was he a part of that disfunctionality? Yes, they all were. Could he adapt to a new game plan? Yes, I think he is good enough. But that is unless his attributes don't match that new game plan.
The new game plan is the one that is very tricky to call. Does Adams favour pace out wide and trying to get in behind? (It would then be a no for Snoddy) The youth team suggests this to an extent. But was he just playing to the hand he had been dealt? i.e. if you have two great talents, with pace in abundance who happen to play on the wing, do you taylor your tactics to get the most out of them? Or is this the way you want to play the game and they were coached to play that way?
I like Snoddy but I still have reservations about how any team will perform in the final 3rd with him in the side. Well at least until he proves himself in a productive attack.
Long story short is, I think for the money we would be fools to reject it. The only caveat to that is if his way of playing is seen as integral to how Adams wants to set us up in which case he will be very hard to replace.

    Bah!

    Excellent post GM!!!

I'm hopeful that NA will set the team up to play with 2 wingers who have pace and can cross the ball - only time will tell on that score and if that is the chosen option (at least for some games), then there is no place for Snoddy. <ok>

I also think if Bennett had been fit snodgrass wouldn't have played as many games as he did.

Snodgrass is a very talented footballer his control if dead balls is excellent and he has on the whole been good for us. However, I think he defines the Hughton era in a way, as he has to be played as an inverted winger. This system and our inability to adjust from it made the whole team predictable which was one of the reasons we struggled to break teams down.
That and we could never catch teams on the break as our passing was never good enough, I think, after Johnson, Snoddy was statistically our worst passer.
He also seemed maddeningly undropable, the first half of the season he was one of our worst performing players and as so much of our attacking play went through him, it was a big reason that we struggled.
He was good, sometime great (Swansea away 2nd pl season) and sometimes dreadful.
Interestingly I've seen more hull fans annoyed at the price than norwich fans annoyed he's going. I think the £7m could be invaluable to going back up. Snodgrass would have been useful but not vital.

    "snodgrass. very good player but..."

this is how i normally start a sentence when he gets mentioned. unfortunately there is always a 'but'. its a great deal for the club and a good one for the player too. hopefully we'll see some raw pace out wide next season.

I think he's just to rigid, i.e. Cuts in off the right wing to play it with his left foot.

When it works it looks awesome but it's the sort of trick that will fool a full back once or twice but when shown onto his left foot he's pretty impotent.

At least with pace you can know full well what's going to happen but not do anything about it.

So I have seen a tweet saying we are trying to hijack a deal for Falkirk left back Stephen Kingsley - I dont know anything about him other than he is a left back. It would worry me that this might mean Olsson could leave? For me, I would want to keep Olsson unless we could get £8m....... He is a Premier League left back and would be a huge assett to helping us get back there.
