I think it is fabulous that Hughton, apparently, invented the inverted winger just to annoy Pinkun posters.
My view is Snodgrass, along with Pilkington and Hooper are all proven goalscorers and should be kept, whether out of contract or not at the end of the season. For the sake of potentially losing a few million transfer fee.You get. Improved chances of promotion, Chances of retaining IF you get promotion Premiership players on Championship wages Less disruption This season is our best chance to go back up. There is quite possibly no player in the Championship as good as Snodgrass.
I wholeheartedly agree. If having Snodgrass here for a season is going to cost us his wages (?1.5m) and his potential transfer fee (?4-5m), then that is a bargain. If we are in the top two in January, I imagine we'd also get a first shot at getting him to sign a pre-contract. I'd rather recoup the cost of Snodgrass by selling RvW and Fer or whomever
Not sure I agree with Pilks as he is injured more ofter than not. Snoddy should be made captain and he and Hooper are must keeps in my view.
I would only willingly lose Bassong and RVW although Fer is almost a given as well, so be it. And of course I would add Hoolahan as his future is untenable after his antics last season, may he rot at Villa Park. If we based our squad on the following it would be pretty decent Rudd, Ruddy, Martin, Whitaker, Olsson, Turner, Bennett (both of them R and E), Snodgrass, Howson, Johnson, Tettey, Hooper, Pilkington, Grabben and Becchio
All we need to hope for now, is that the 'management team' know how to get them to perform at their peak in every game!!! Not forgetting, we could also see some more new arrivals!!!!
You only get all these benefits of keeping quality players if those players want or are prepared to stay. A player who wants to move and is prevented, by whatever means, is not just going to forget it and give us a 110% for the cause. Players are professional for most part of course, but they are also not Robots, psychologically we need them invested in getting us promoted or we may as well sell.
And from what is coming out of CR that seems to be the case with very few dissenters. If we keep the bulk of the squad we should be O.K. but it won't be easy, far from it.
Dave has posted this on the fixtures thread, but it also applies here: "Just appeared on twitter, doesn't sound like he wants out! Robert snodgrass ‏@robsnodgrass7 1m More Interesting fixtures .... Both leeds games on a Tuesday is disappointing , Saturday elland rd is great atmosphere as well"
I agree Thurnby everything seems good...at the minute. Transfer season hasn't really started yet and while a lot of theses players may be prepared to stay at the moment, who knows what may happen to change their minds. What if Celtic or a mid table prem side bid for Snodgrass and we refuse him permission? what if Arsenal come calling for Ruddy but don't meet our valuation? what if Hoopers agent assures him he can double his wages at QPR? etc. etc. It's going to be a long and interesting Summer, but one thing is certain, some players will leave, hopefully some good ones will also come in.
Couldn't agree more. The stick some fans have given and continue to give him, you couldn't blame if he did try force his way out.
Exactly my point too. Snodgrass etc goes I shall be deeply unimpressed Oh and if Snodgrass isn't captain next season i'll be even more miffed, for me he should've been last season. One of the few players who honestly seemed to show passion regularly (no slur on the others but you often saw him shouting and trying to get the team moving) IMHO the captain has to be a forward player unless it's an outstanding candidate in another area. Whether that's just coloured thinking caused by Holt being such a good one or not but for me "lead from the front" applies
Snoddy strikes me as a player that wants to play at the top level but he also seems quite happy at Norwich. I think either way it goes with him is acceptable. We either keep a very talented player or we make a decent profit on him. It's a nice position we find our selves in.
He'd make a championship team of the season - if that's worth 3million, then sell away. My thought would be we didn't buy at Xmas...take the hit whatever. Players like Snods are very hard to find.
It's all well & good people say sell if we get a good offer but we'll be really screwed then if we can't then get a suitable replacement in. As just mentioned we tried in January and got nowhere and we were in the Prem then
Why will we need a replacement. Redmond and Bennett are more than capable of rising to our needs. Maybe not as technically capable but much more pace to unnerve defenders, and still not the finished article. Buying a new player will just stunt their development.
Whilst I can understand this logic, my concern would be injuries, which would leave the Murphy brothers as possible replacements. Grabban can play wide, but I'd guess that would be more of a 4-3-3 formation than one with wingers. If Adams is looking that way, we might be all right, but I'd much rather Snodgrass stays.
Apparently the club has valued Snodders at £6.5m - not sure if that is legit but seems a sensible valuation and would be a useful contribution to our coffers if we do let him go and get that rate for him.
