We should sue him, like Chelsea did with Mutu; get back the shortfall at least.

Probably won't happen of course, but hard to believe that something like this wouldn't constitute gross misconduct.

Should do but doubt we will, sue him for whatever money we lose. Only players I can see going in Yoshida, Hooiveld, Mayuka, Osvaldo and Sharp. Plus the players that are out of contract.

It'd be interesting if Maya left because then we'd need two new CBs.

He's an odd one. International player, had a decent first season with us, made himself first choice in central defence before the arrival of Lovren... and has hardly been used since. Apart from the point you raise (which is a good one), it would strike me as a bit of a waste if we got rid.

I've never felt particularly comfortable with him playing, but I think I'd be okay with him being fourth choice.

Last year of contract next year, if he has a decent World Cup and wants to play I'm sure he could find a move in Germany/Holland with our best wishes as long as we have a new youngish CB lined up. Which is more than you can say for Mayuka, tough for him to find any top division clubs anywhere.

The question really is: would we be able to buy a replacement, who is as good or better, with the likely proceeds of his sale? And the answer to that seems pretty clearly to be negative.

Then again, the same can be said for Puncheon. A lot depends on the player's attitude I suppose.

Think Turnbull will be given the 4th choice cb slot with Fonte being 3rd.

I'd like to avoid having to buy two. If Turnbull can come through that's perfect. Hopefully we'll see plenty of him in pre-season as he looked good previously and definitely seems to have the physical side down.

I'm not sure what you mean in the first line. Where is it clear this would be in the negative? I'd imagine that there are a lot of CBs out there as good if not better than him; it's just about having a good scouting network. Even if his value was not that high, then there will be players out there.

If you just meant you couldn't think of any, then fair enough.

I wonder if we bought another good CB, if Fonte would want to move on? There were rumours of a Tukish club interested in him and if he was to be considered third choice CB, at his age he may want one last decent payday.

I have to say that I think he has had a very good season overall.

He's had a better season than last but I think thats down to Lovren. If we buy I think he may move on.

Nah, I think Jose deserves a lot of praise for how he's upped his game under Pochettino. A few mistakes here and there, but overall very solid indeed and probably our most underrated player this season. If we buy a new CB it'll add competition to his spot, not necessarily bump him down to third choice.
